  • Winter weight gain anyone?

Does anyone else notice the scale going up slightly now that it's turning colder? I've been in maintinence for about 6 or 7 months and have noticed that recently I put on about 5-6 lbs that wont go away even with me backing off to my CCLL. I know I gained some muscle due to a lot more strenuous work out every morning but this seems kind of weird. Do our bodies try to store additional fat for winter?
    Male, 255 start / 185 now / original goal of 200

      I do.... always have...

I only live in NE Georgia.. but sometimes it's too cold to run... or be outside.. for me..

and maybe it's because I go back to work.. during summer I"m doing so much physical stuff... yard work etc.. but in the winter.. after work (I teach).. it's already dark....

much less physical.. so it's something I've always battled...
      2-15-10 194.8 - highest ever!
      2-20-10 190.4 - new scale
      3-20-10 177.8 - 1 month
      5-10-10 169.8 - 25 pounds gone!

Not since Atkins, even on Maintenance. But I DO know what you mean about the bod trying to 'store fat' in winter and the desire to just pig out in cold weather. Apparently low carb eating is what my body needs since I have not had that problem at all since low carbing. Even if I eat more in winter than summer I'm still able to maintain- and I even dropped 10 lb this past Feb-March. Also during my weight loss phases I lost huge amounts in winter.

I say, even if you are on Maintenance- don't give your body any reason or ability to store that fat. Gotta stay on top of your game and watch what you eat carefully- Maintenance or not. Just my two cents.
Keep doing what you're doing & you'll keep getting what you're getting!!!

this happend to me after 6 or so months of maint. as well..in the summer though..so i can't blame the cold weather. I found i've had to start tweaking my diet, cutting back the fats, upping the exercise etc. I have never eaten off plan, but i do think i got lazy and started eating too many calories. I believe in maintenace calories do count.

Oh and i used to always have an issue with winter weight gain in the past...though last year on atkins i didn't since i was still pretty much in weight loss mode.

This year i'm being extra careful (plus i'm still struggling with those 5 lbs ), since i can't always get out and run due to icy conditions, and tend to be inside alot more..
