  • Black Soy beans

Have any of you tried these? I know they are not on induction but I decided to try them tonight. They have 8g carbs, but 7g fiber. I think for like a 1/2c. I didn't eat that many just sprinkled them over my taco salad. They were pretty good, didn't have a texture quite like regular beans but can be a good substitute!

They were good, especially when you consider teh carb and fiber content. I posted this in stac and no response, surely someone on these boards has tried or heard of them before.... they didn't taste like black beans, though they had a thick skin, not a mushy inside though, more of a bean inside a bean, if that makes any sense at all!!! LOL

    Re: Black Soy beans

It doesn't surprize me that the STACers won't comment because legumes aren't acceptable for Induction. They are, however, acceptable in the Legume Rung of OWL. So for the Legume OWLers they are totally acceptable---provided your body doesn't have a bad reaction to them.

They aren't bad taste wise, but I find them alittle tough. Personally, I try to limit my soy intake because there have been studies that show soy can suppress thyroid function. and you need a good functioning thyroid to lose weight, amoung other things.

I used the black soy beans in chili the other night. They were a great replacement for chili beans....I barely noticed a difference!

Black soy beans are what I use in my chili. Now that I am on maintenance I also add black beans.

I use the black soy beans in chili as well, and we can't tell the difference at all.

They are great in Chili. There are some old threads that dispute the net carbs numbers, but I have never had a problem.

                Re: Black Soy beans

You hear contradictions about the carb count. But a year or more ago I emailed the Eden's company and asked about the carb count on the cans. They reassured me that the car count was correct and that the way it was listed was "before" the fiber was subtracted. I do eat them (I"m not on induction obviously) in chili and also as a "refried bean" dish (recipe available on www.lowcarbluxury.com in the recipe section) they are very good and very acceptable on the legume rung!

                  Re: Black Soy beans

I think that is the brand I bought. I am only eating them as an occasional treat in my chili next time so hopefully it won't throw me for a loop!!! however, I am doing extended induction basically... Thanks- I will have to check out that recipe

I'm pretty sure that Eden's is the only brand you can buy.

                      Re: Black Soy beans

yep cooked beans have a lower carb count then dried raw ones cause they swell up with water and fewer beans will fit in the same space. You will discover that a 1/2 cup of any cooked legume will have a much lower carb count then the dried count for 1/2 cup.

there are over 250 different types of beans that the USDA classifies as soybeans and EDEN has gotten hold of a very very low carb high protein one for its product. Be careful if you use another brand or get a bag of uncooked ones. you will have to use their label value if you do.

since you are adding legumes technically you are doing a modified OWL and not an extended induction. Glad you didn't post this in that forum and confuse those doing a Atkins correct extended indution.

I am a major BEAN FREAK although I hadn't tried soy beans. I LOVE beans. White and green limas, kidney beans (mmm in chili), etc etc. I am craving some beans so bad right now and so wish I had some chili cooked.
