I have both at home, but am not sure which to try first...I had jicama fries last Saturday and they weren't as good as I remember them being when I was on Atkins last year...So I'd like everyone's opinion. Thanks!

Re: Turnip or Radish Fries?
My family and I love turnip fries. Radish hash browns were okay. I haven't been able to find jicama yet.Female, 46yrs, 5'3"

Re: Turnip or Radish Fries?
I haven't tried radishes. But the turnips work well for hashbrowns, mashed, boiled, whatever. The jicama is really crunchy and after trying to make a few of the above items, I decided it's best for a faux apple or just raw.Shelly

Re: Turnip or Radish Fries?
Turnip fries are good.
BUT, the BEST Induction friendly fries are made from either fresh pumpkin or celery root(celeriac).

Re: Turnip or Radish Fries?
Pumpkin tastes alittle like sweet potatoes, but they aren't as "sweet", imo. Yes, you can bake them. Just bake until tender. They won't be crispy like potatoes if you bake them. Even if you fry them they won't be crispy like potatoes, but more like french fried sweet potatoes.~Megs~

Re: Turnip or Radish Fries?
I usually make broccolli stalk fries!! Not tried Celeriac that way, Megs - I usually mash ours with butter and spices.Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Re: Turnip or Radish Fries?
I've had french fried sweet potatoes one time...and they were GREAT! I'll have to try the pumpkin fries. ;-D
Stupid question...Can you still buy fresh pumpkin during the off season? I've never noticed any in the produce section.April in OK

Re: Turnip or Radish Fries?
They're still in the produce section in my supermarkets and some farm stands still have them. Just make sure you buy a "sugar" or "pie" pumpkin.
The other thing that fries well is okra. Slice fresh okra lengthwise and fry them. They become crispy and are very light.
Celeriac is great. You can make chips out of them. Slice it thinly like you would do for potato chips and deep fry.
Elizellen, I was wondering about those broccoli stalks! They do look "starchy". I gotta try that the next time I have some.~Megs~

Ummm...About the okra...don't the seeds fall out? I love okra too...never thought of frying it without breadding.
I'll have to try the celeriac too!April in OK

Re: Turnip or Radish Fries?
Re: okra
some seeds do fall out but the majority of them stay within the okra slices. you need to cut the okra into quarters lengthwise, so that the central stem where the seeds are attached is mainly intact.
Frankly, I never thought about frying okra without some kind of breading either, but then I read one of Mark Bittman's cookbooks and there it was: fried okra without any coating or breading. I was skeptical, but I tried it and it worked. The recipe in Bittman's book is an Indian recipe, so it seasons the fried okra with a type of curry mixture. But I've seasoned my fried okra with a garlic pepper mixture and it was very good.

Re: Turnip or Radish Fries?
Absolutely - I even make soup out of the (scrubbed clean) lumpy peel and rootlike bits. So nothing goes to waste.Originally posted by Yoly1001I've heard a lot about celery root lately, I may have to go pick some up at the store. I hear it is fantastic for soups.Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Re: Turnip or Radish Fries?
Not2late, you always have great food suggestions. I love fried okra but hate breading it....I am going to have to try it the way you suggested.
