  • What keeps you from cheating?

Ok people, what one thing stops you from cheating?

For me, I am scared of that "slippery slope". But what keeps YOU on the straight and narrow?

What keeps me straight is fact, logic and history.

I look at what has happened every other time I've decided that food was more important than dealing with emotions.

So if anyone every thinks about eating those things that rationally we know we can't have for emotional or non-pragmatic reasons, question why you would be willing to go back to the addictions which ruled our lives for so many years.

I know I'm never revisiting that place. It's not worth it.

I was at my lowest as far as self esteem when I started Atkins. When I think of the way my life was before Atkins, I don't dare do anything that might bring the fat-lady back out and make my life that miserable again.

I always try to think of the hard efforts I'm putting into losing weight, and with just one wrong bite, it can throw me off guard and besides, it takes 2 days again for the body to get back into ketosis hopefully. Is that cookie or piece of cake really worth two days from the rest of your life? nope...

Yesterday there was a delicious looking tiramisu cake going around the office, and I bluntly but politely turned down a piece of cake on a plate, once it was being given to me at my desk! I have no regrets not eating it!

I ask myself, "Do you really want to let yourself down like that, again?" That makes me feel sad enough to say no.

I've spent my time on the slippery slope, believe me. Several things keep me on track though. First and foremost, I'm happier when I'm smaller and I'm DYIN to visit size 16 and then size 14. Another thing is my family. I want to be in shape so that Christopher, Nicholas and I can easily rock climb, hike and do all the other stuff that we plan for our future!

and by the way...Rich, you're looking HOT these days!!!

What keeps me straight is the realization that if I go back to my old self, I wont live long enough to see my kids grow up... its harsh, but it works

Re: What keeps you from cheating?

I've heard the phrase, "Nothing tastes as good as being thin feels" so many times. I've repeated it to myself so many times. I've told myself that yes, that cookie DOES taste better than being thin feels

However, this time, for some reason, is different. I don't know if I want it more, if I have a better reason or if I just got fed up with being fat, but I really can't imagine ANYTHING tasting better than being thin will feel. Plus, I know that for me, if I cheat once, I get REALLY down on myself and just tell myself, "Well, you already cheated, one more cookie isn't going to hurt," or "I'll start again tomorrow...I can have that bag of candy tonight." Then the next day, "Well, I'll just start tomorrow, that icecream looks really good and I already cheated yesterday, what's one more day?" Then a year and thirty pounds later, I'm in tears again wondering what went wrong. I won't do that to myself this time.

I simply think about what I want more - that piece of cake, or to be slim and happy with myself.

Deciding to lose weight wasn't something I thought up overnight. It's been something I've tried and worked hard at over the years. It's something I've wanted more than anything, and I'm not giving up.

I just don't see the point in it. There's no benefit to it that I can see, so why bother?

Cheating, hmmm...I have not been able to get the temptation monster out of my head yet, but I keep fighting him every day. I am sticking with this because I am tired of being the fat one everywhere I go. I also want a baby so badly I cry over it sometime, but my husband won't let us try until the doctor says I can go off my diabetes meds so we can have a better chance of a healthy baby. So, I am being good for my future baby.

                            Cheating = self-sabotage.

                            I am worth it!

As some of you may know, I'm a chronic cheater who eventually fell off for a couple of months. These are my reasons that stop me cheating these days:
                              • immediate weight gain that stays for couple of weeks at least, and
                              • watching the scales and inches go up
                              • the immense guilt right after eating the cheat food
                              • bloated and too-full feeling after eating cheat food
                              • it takes me a good 2 days to get my keto strips back to purple again
                              • it takes a good week to stop my clothes feeling as tight
                              • it takes 2 weeks at least to get the weight I regained off
                              • the cravings as a result of eating a refined cheat food - the cravings drives me nuts
                              • the pains in my feet because I've put the weight back on
                              • being forever on induction if i keep cheating and getting bored with my food (don't want that )
                              • being told by my fiance & colleagues "are you supposed to eat that" if I get caught eating a cheat food
                              • being asked "have I gained weight since losing recently?"
And most of all if all else fails, what would stop me cheating is being told by my school friends whom I hadn't seen for 12 years, that I AM FAT and being asked AM I PREGNANT?
(plus I hope I read those reminder links right at the bottom of my siggie)
