Re: Question
Welcome!!! In the world of Atkins, it's not enough to just read the carb content. You also have to read the ingredients in everything before it goes into your mouth. If the ingredients include anything that's not acceptable on induction (I'm assuming you're on induction but please correct me if I'm wrong) then they're not appropriate for you.
Oh...and pork rinds are high in salt, so don't overdo....

Re: Question
1-2oz of the pork rinds, assuming the ingredients are good to go, is just fine to snack on. Zero carbs doesn't mean snarf down the whole bag. Pork rinds are high in sodium, as JoAnne pointed out, and they're pretty darn high calorie too! While Dr. Atkins said we don't have to count calories, he *never* said calories don't count!
I wish you success.

Re: Question
Most have 80 calories per half cup. So a handful can run you pretty close to 160-200 calories. Most barbecue ones have sugar in the ingredients, too. I had a pork rind addiction that stalled me for 2 weeks! I only use them for breading on fried meats now.

Re: Question
I am seriously having a difficult time during this Induction Phase. I am okay with the lunch and dinner meals but I can't seem to figure out what are the best snack choices while being on the Induction Phase
.
I am in week two and I have been drinking 12 glasses of water every day, sometimes more.
Can I have an Atkins Vanilla or Chocolate Shake? I had one last night on my break from class (I am in grad school at night).
If someone can please give me a list of snacks that are acceptable, that would be great and then I can seriously stay away from prok rinds

Re: Question
Look at the acceptable foods in your DANDR or on this website. You can make your snacks from these acceptable foods, and these foods only. Atkins Shakes are not allowed during the first 2 weeks of Induction, or in Induction at all. I have trouble with finding "snack" foods too, especially if you are in night classes and starving. I am there too!! Cheese sticks make great snacks, pepperonis, mini pickles (beware of the salt), sliced cucumbers or a raw veggie of your choice, little bites of steak or chicken...the possibilites are endless. Be creative. It doesn't have to seem "snacky" to be a snack! Think of it as a mini-meal.

Re: Question
I agree...snacks can be about anything legal. For instance...here are some that I've had:
*boiled eggs (it's always a good idea to have some on hand)
*pepperoni
*cheese sticks
*deli lunchmeat such as turkey, chicken or roast beef (make sure it doesn't contain fillers, sugar or starch), either alone or wrapped around a pickle or cheese stick
*veggies such as celery, jicama
*stuffed mushroom caps
*black olives
*cheese crispies (microwave or fry some shredded cheese until hard. yum!)
*flax bread
*flax crackers
*small slice of crustless quiche
To be honest, sometimes I think I want a snack when all I want is something in my mouth. In those cases, I drink more water or have a piece of gum. I personally like Altoid's cinnamon sugar-free chewing gum. It's made with splenda and xylitol, and better yet one serving is two pieces. I can have one in the morning and one in the afternoon and call it one serving total.
Hope this helps!
JoAnne
