  • Women are cursed!!!!!

You know where this is headed....

I have been a very good girl on Atkins with no BINGES and barely any cheats. OK - like 5 days within the last 30 I have gone over 20g net carbs and only ONE day at 50g net carbs. Not too shabby for someone who's learning to better about this. Since there are 2 adults and 1 child in my family and the 2 adults need to lose about 50lbs - everybody eats induction food and my 2 year old preferrs it. But, since she needs to keep growing but WE don't need to, we let her have her carbs in the form of nuts and stuff like that and we don't eat it. However, my husband is not dedicated at all to the WOE and eats what I put before him, enjoys it, then eats whatever goodies he wants at work. THIS MORNING, HE WAS ABLE TO CLOSE HIS SIZE 34 PANTS!!!! He was at a 38-40 when I started the diet! AND I'VE BEEN EXERCISING!!!! I have lost maybe a half size with all of my work. Don't get me wrong - I'm seeing progress and knowing my whooshies are around the corner but this is just ABSURD!!!! I WISH HE WOULD QUIT IT!!!! At least until I have a chance to catch up .

It is unfair. My boyfriend and I are doing this together, and when I'm celebrating 18lbs gone, he's not celebrating his 35lbs. And he's shrinking away, while I'm just not as tightly squeezed into my clothes.

I agree!!!! My hubby has lost 60 lbs compared to my near 30. It's not fair! I weigh more than him now. I think the men have a secret they're not sharing!

        Re: Women are cursed!!!!!

I've posted this before, so if you've read this already, SOB.

Men are rotten but lovable because of their ability to merely scratch or gesticulate and lose 37.5 pounds in the process by sheer will alone.

Women scratch, gesticulate and bet on pro wrestling and we gain a pound.

It is the universal nature of things.

Even Biblically speaking, Eve tried to feed Adam the high-glycemic apple in the garden of Eden. To what end? Eve got fat, God was miffed and Eve got cramps. Adam got ESPN.

The upside to this is that men have a higher metabolism. This means something in their bodies works too hard, causes them to burn up energy less efficiently and then they die much earlier than those of us whose metabolisms might be more sluggish, but who sustain a longer life as a result.

So, in short, men scratch and die. We live on their inheritances.

It all balances out in the end.

          Re: Women are cursed!!!!!

You're not alone! My honey started Atkins 3 months after I did, cheated occasionally, constantly over-indulged (healthy carbs, like nuts, but still!!) and ended up at goal - 80 lbs down - in about 6 months.

I, on the other hand, am still struggling to lose the last 15... it seems I'm lucky to lose a half pound per month lately.

From (mostly) lurking on this board over the past 15 months I've learned that, generally speaking, this is not at all uncommon. I'd probably be very resentful and/or jealous of him if it wasn't for learning this. Ok well maybe I'm still jealous, but at least I've come to accept it and can be happy for him.. he does look GREAT and has been maintaining his weight for the last 6 months. I also try to remember that we're in this WOL together, which does make it easier for me to stay on track. It would be REALLY hard for me to live with a carb addict.

Hopefully this perspective helps some. Embrace your husband's success - and use it to keep you inspired! Even if the weight loss is slow, it is way better than weight gain. Good luck

Thanks! Yeah, the bright side is that I'll have a hunk sooner than he'll have a hottie. Almost makes up for flatulence on romantic outings .

              Slimin,

I am with you on the men losing faster thing. However, my hubby has stopped dropping so fast now. He is down to like two pounds a week and is WHINING about it. I have been at 260 for three weeks. If he bypasses, me...well, I will put sugar in his food. Nah, but it makes me feel evil to say I will.

My hubby has the same thing happening with him! He loses weight soooo quickly.. He doesn't have much to lose maybe 20 or 30 pounds, but his weight just comes off so fast when he tries to lose it! grrrr not fair!

                  Re: Women are cursed!!!!!

It is true that men do lose weight faster than women do, they just have to think about it and the weight comes off. But their bodies are built differently, they don't have our hormones, nor TOM, nor bearing babies, nor....yada, yada, yada,,,They are also not neurotic about their weight, nor emotional like we are! So let's get on with it and not try to compete with them on weight issues, and get ourselves down about it. Just remember we do MULTI-TASK, and they don't!

The same goes for when we hear about other women on the board who seem to be shrinking much faster that we are.
We are all individuals and should not be comparing our results with others - or when we do we should not let it get us down.
We will all get there in our body's own good time if we follow the plan.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

I'm happy to say, I just asked my DH about what he had been eating this last week and we measured his waist which was 48 3/4 and now is 49. We than measured mine and YES, I'm down an inch from 45 to 44.

I know what you guys are talking about. Jon can go to the gym once in two months and drop sizes. I have been doing this WOL for almost a year and have only dropped 55 pounds. I really thought I would be at goal by now, at least I did when I started.

But looking back I am really glad that it has been a slow process. It has allowed my body to readjust to the smaller size without freaking me out, which probably would have happened if I lost too fast. Also I find that it has helped train me for this WOL, if I had lost all my weight in 6 months or soemthign I'm not sure I would be prepared to keep it off for good. I am here, I've been here for a year and will probably be here for another year before hitting goal, tha'ts 2 years. You can be sure that I'm not just gonna start eating carbs again after 2 years of going without, no way! Even if I had the desire to my body wouldn't be used to it.

So Here's to the slow losers w00t, w00t!!!
