  • Not-So-Induction

Hi. I posted this in another thread, but I'm curious and anxious for a response so I decided to repost it as a new thread.

Hello, my name is Sarah and it's a pleasure to be back on Atkins. I'm just re-starting this WOL, and I'm really eager to lose 30 pounds by January 7th, 2006 (my brother's wedding). I currently weight 295. I quit smoking about 3 weeks ago, which was the most difficult thing I've ever done. So, now, it is time for me to start a healthier WOL.

I have to admit that I'm really not very good at this whole induction phase. I think a better name for it under my plan is the "not-so-induction". I find that I eat nuts, peanut butter, sugar free jello, splenda, and cool whip -- all things that I know are not allowed during this phase. How much does that really impact the result? Should I really try to stick directly to the plan at this point?

Has anyone done the induction phase and not stuck exactly to plan (still keeping under 20 carbs a day) and been successful?

    Any advice is greatly appreciated.

    Re: Not-So-Induction

lots of folk did it your way before the 2002 edition of DR ATKINS NEW DIET REVOLUTION was printed.
the old rule 5 allowed just that.

BUT DR Atkins after seeing patients and reading leters from folk doing his plan decided we didn't have the common sense he thought we ddi to use wholesome nutritional foods to make up that 20 nut carbs so he changed the rules and said eat nothing not opn the lists. SO you can do it your way and battle the cravings and the not so nutriciuos stuff you want or you can conquer your desire for those foods and follow the program Dr Atkins gave you to become the healthiest smallest person possible doing Atkins induction.

    Happy low carbing.

I did that too, but it really puts you in a position of "just one more bite" and that's not good. I found I fell off the wagon when I did it that way. Granted, I'm not a complete angel but I'm pretty close and feeling better for it. When I stick with just the meat and veggies, I find that the cravings are controlled better.

Stkassab, I responded to your question in the other thread, so all I will add here is - it is in your own hands so why not give induction a chance and do it 'by the book' (DANDR 2002) for two weeks and see how you do?
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

I did it and it worked out fine. I am a returning Atkins member and I have to tell you that tomorrow (11/15/05) will be my two weeks. Have I cheated? Well according other members I have but I still continued to lose a pound each day. Tomorrow is my weigh in day so I am anxious to see the total amount I actually loss.

The way I cheated was not bad to me. I had the atkins shake and a very small apple one day. Maybe because I work out 7 days a week....bottom line, if you fall short of the rules of induction, get back up and get on track the next day.

              Re: Not-So-Induction

This is my second try at Atkins and I'm an over 50 female with 100+ pounds to lose so I braced myself for getting off to a slow start.

Today is the one-week mark for me and I've lost 11 lbs.!! I'm ecstatic. I was so afraid of how slow this would be that I followed induction to the letter, I'm re-reading the book, and I'm walking 3o to 50 minutes a day.

I would have been happy with a much smaller loss and I know this rate won't continue but I have to tell you, it is a real motivator for sticking to it!!

I think strict induction teaches dicipline and is extremely important. I know it broke my bad habbits and the "just one more bite" mentality. I'm anxious to see if it works for you though.
