  • New Recruits

I started this WOL almost a year ago with absolutly no support from my family. My mom had done low carb before but never Atkins and never by the book. One day I just woke up and couldn't live with myself anymore, I said today is the day. I started Atkins on December 17th, almost a whole year, I can't believe it. I got condescending looks from family members when I first started. A week into induction my sister had a chocolate christmas brunch. I'm talking godiva, hot chocolate, chocolate cheescake, cakes, you name it. It was a really cute idea but torture on me who had just started. I stuck through it though, went so far as to cook and bring Christmas dinner to my mom's house cause they weren't having atkins friendly stuff. Still I got the doubtful looks and comments, "Atkins?" that kind of thing. Everyone was as suprised as I was if not more that it actually started working. I'm down 55 pounds now and I've recruited 5 people in my family to join this Low Carb life style. I am so glad for this, I can pay it forward to my family all the help I received by the people on this board. I loaned them my books, told them about the site, share recipes, and such. It's really great, my sister and my mom are both losing a lot! I think the other sister secretly wants to join but can't because she's the one that was really doubtful in the first place. LOL, can you imagine a closet atkineer, lol.

It's so funny how this WOE doesn't just affect you but all of those around you. I am thinner and happier and that came out loud and clear to my family, so they started it too. It's nice to have people to share this WOL that I see on a daily basis, and be assured that Thanksgiving and Christmas will be Atkins friendly this year.

Congratulations on being a living Atkins Advert
Isnt it great when your efforts pay off despite what some of the family say when you start.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

LOL, even if I wanted to quit, which I dont, I would still be here just to prove them wrong! I'm stubborn like that.

Well thanks guys, I never really thought of it like that. I guess I am an advertisement for Atkins, I don't hold back and I tell absolutly everyone what I'm doing and how I've been successful. I am seriously indebted to Dr. A and I feel it is my responsibility to pay it forward. All the success I've had is not only because of this WOE but because of this board and the wonderful people who are here day in and day out answering all the questions I had in the beginning, encouraging me along the way, and celebrating my successes. Thanks.

                  Re: New Recruits

Well done!! I know what you mean about other people not being understanding though. My mother and I attempted Atkins a few summers ago and without success. But now that I'm doing it again, she just complains about me being fussy of what I'm eating, that I'm not being healthy by not eating all these different vegetables.

And the people at work are even worse. One of the managers has tried it a billion times, but she's always on some diet, and she always fails. She publicly announces sarcastic remarks about me and Atkins. But the look on her face when I told her I'd lost 20lbs in a month? Priceless! haha

I've never liked her :@ But now I'm learning to get on with life and deal with it, with or without other people's support.

                      Re: New Recruits

I know what you all mean!

At work, the office boy was telling me while I was int he kitchen having some cucumber and cream cheese, that the cucumber is okay but NOT the cream cheese because it has too much fat. I told him to mind his own business and that I know what I'm doing. Then I thought I would be polite and said to him after that, that I know he is just concerned about me and I understand but not to worry.

He was trying to mock the next day about how I'm on a diet, etc. Some people just have to make everything their business.....

But other than that, my husband is finally supportive of Atkins and so that is great.

My mom is coming to visit us in about 3 weeks and I've been telling her about Atkins, I think she probably has about 50 pounds or a bit more to lose, so I'm sure I'll be having a good effect on her when she comes here for 2 weeks.

Yoly - good job! My MIL is so skeptical of Atkins because all the doctors she knows don't like it but I can't wait to be in your shoes to give her something to believe.
