Well ok, I have not seen anyone talk about Thanksgiving and what they are planning to do or "eat" shall I dare say it. I personally don't think it is the end of the world if people choose a day like Thanksgiving not to be on their eatting program...as long as they can get right back to it afterwards. I'm planning to stay low carb but will probably eat more calories and more carbs then I usually do. I'm thinking making a bunch of low carb stuff, then I will have low carb food around to get right back to it the next day.

    Anyone else?

    Re: Thanksgiving

Here's a recent thread dealing with Canadian Thanksgiving

I'll do what I've done with every other holiday/celebration I've had since I've been on Atkins: stick to my foods list and stick to my CCLL. I know myself well enough to know I can't fall off and jump back on the next day---I don't have a personality that is capable of doing something like that.

Anyhow, these special days are much easier to handle on OWL, but Induction people don't have a bad time of it either, imo. Even before Atkins, I never had room for dessert after eating turkey and veggies....

      Re: Thanksgiving

No, it wouldn't be the end of the world if we decided to take a day off from our WOE. But, to me my WAY OF EATING is just that. It's now my life-style. Its not a diet that I can go on and off of. When I started Atkins, I committed myself to changing my way of eating.

I know what you are saying, and I think it is a personal choice that each of us makes. I know that if I continue to watch my carbs and do my exercise, drink water and take my supplements that I won't have to relive the cravings and doubts that I had when I first began. To me, the peace of mind that I have now isn't worth the taste of any food.

Although I've only been on restart for a short time. I've been with my DH who has me living the Atkins lifestyle for the past 3 years. Just the thought of Mashed Potatoes and Stuffing make me want to gag. Not that they are delish just SO filling.

              AMEN!!!

I think Thanksgiving is the easiest holiday to stay on plan. Here's my menu:

              Turkey
Mashed Turnips with cream cheese & butter (YUM)
Linda's low carb green bean casserole
Homemade stuffing with low carb bread
              Relish tray
              Baby Spinach salad with ranch
              Homemeade cranberry sauce
Crustless pumpkin pie with whipped cream

I'm also running the Turkey Trot 10k in the morning!

I'm doing the 'round the neighborhood' power walk after the dinner---nothing worse than feeling 50 pounds heavier, sluggish and sleepy after eating, imo.

My Thanksgiving is spent with my extended family and it's more of a pot luck type meal. There's plenty of food from me to pick and choose from. So here's the stuff I eat:

                Turkey
                Southern Maryland Stuffed Ham
the relish tray veggies I can eat on my OWL
Steamed asparagus with homemade Hollandaise (this is what I'm bringing)
Faux mashed sweet potatoes (I'm bringing this too)
The fresh fruit I can eat on my OWL

I've been requested to bake a pan of cornbread and a couple of dozen bread rolls. So, I'll be baking and bringing those things, for the family to eat.

                      Re: Thanksgiving

Just a word up front about Thanksgiving. Yeah, if you've already read it four times, read it again. I'm your Jewish mother talking. G-d forbid you married the bum, you listen to your mother about this one thing.

                      Listen.

I know we are all human, but I don't want to hear about how you ate something you weren't supposed to eat on Thanksgiving knowing full well you have time to practice "Just saying No".

I'm removing all that power you think you have right now to get one past me.

You'd better start thinking of all the lame excuses right now for why you think I'm not going to smack you upside the head when I see you ate some of the marshmallow yams.

Don't give me "But, cleo! I was walking through the dining room and I TRIPPED over the dog and my mouth fell open right on this plate of yams."

                      No, no, no.

I don't want to hear you had to hide the pecans rolls in your bra to keep them warm for your husband. Honey, he can keep his own buns warm.

I don't want to hear you licked off the spoon that went in the mashed potatoes but you didn't inhale.

I don't want to hear that you didn't have relations with that woman, Sarah Lee, while you're touching her pie crust.

                      uhn uhn uhn.

Thanksgiving should be the easiest exercise in self-control. You've got a turkey right there.

You don't need the stuffing. It came out of a dead bird's butt. Hello. Dead bird butt bread leavins?

And that cranberry sauce? Let's be real here. Cranberries are probably fine on the OWL rung, but if it came out of a can and looks like a nuclear cooling tower and makes a schlopp sound as it falls onto the plate, it had better not be on your fork.

That's right. Give me that look. Don't make me come over there.

                      I saw that.

                        Cleo--

You have the best sense of humor on this board (and you look good, too!!!).

Seriously, folks, why are you pursuing this Way of Life? Remember, we didn't do this because we thought it would be easy all the time. All of us deep down knew there would be times when we would have to make serious decisions. Well, Thanksgiving is one of those times. If you really want to celebrate the holiday, how about thanking God you found (with His help!) this WOE and resolve that this day, of all days, you will not cheat!

After all, it's not about eating, it's about giving thanks! Tell that to your family if they try to give you a hard time. If that doesn't get them, then take them by the hand and tell them you know of a nice church you all need to go to..............

Have a wonderful and blessed Thanksgiving!

                          Lol....

Anyday now Diet Doom-And-Gloom crowd will begin forecasting how many pounds the average person will gain during the holiday season. I think at last count they all agreed it was between 5-10 pounds.

Why not resolve to lose weight between now (today) and January 1st? Don't be average. Set goals: weight loss, clothing size loss, or an exercise goal.

                          Be strong!

Amen megs. Thank you sogamusicman! I appreciate that.

And 2big made a good point about people succumbing to peer pressure during the holiday to eat.

                            That isn't going to fly.

If they don't have pictures I can sell on Ebay of Auntie Gladys sitting on someone's chest and forcing Jelly Bellies down their throat, I don't even--uh--uhn uhn-- no--I don't even want to hear that.

Nobody puts on the expando pants and uses the Jaws of Life for post-dinner extraction from the table this year.

And when I say table, I mean tables, folding trays, counter tops or wherever the food is. Don't try the whole, "but you said table, and I wore an expando skirt not pants".

Don't go getting all smart with me. I know politics and all the BS ways to say something and think you're getting away with it. I'll still get the severed Barbie head on your pillow.
