  • need no more convincing

    Hey all,

First of all, I deeply want to thank the people who replied to my post 'need convincing'. Thank you so much for writing such motivating and encouraging replies!
When I wrote my post , I was thinking about going for either Weight Wathers or the Atkins WOE.
I thought that WW probably was easier on an every day basis , but then I realised that I would have to weigh or measure each bite I take and probably be hungry most of the time. Next , if you read the ingredients on low fat foods , you have to know some chemistry to understand what is in those prepared foods! How healthy can a bunch of chemicals ever be?
The Atkins WOE will be hard , very hard at first , but I assume I'll get used to it after one or maybe two weeks.
No matter how you see it , for either plan , I will have to change my routine , I might as well choose the healthiest option!

Now I just have to learn to fit it into my life, but as I said before , that will only take a little time and then it will seem like something I've always been doing.

I do have two more questions left : what are for you guys the things that help you stay on track? I'm thinking about snacks and foods I can always take with me so I won't get tempted by high carb rubbish.
And can you recommend any cookbooks that could help me along the way? Is that lastest Atkins cookbook good? I'm a bit confused sometimes as Dr. Atkins was always against convenience food , but in those books , you often find recipes with low carb bread mixes etc...

    Thank you all!

    Elke

      Re: need no more convincing

I keep my foods simple. I always have raw veggies and cheese in the fridge as well as dressings like blue cheese or ranch to take along as dips. I'll toss in an egg or some leftover meat from the night before, or some pepperoni, and there's my snack/lunch.
Another of my favourite snacks (when I used to snack in the evenings: I rarely do now) was cut up radish or celery and cheese, believe it or not...a creamy crunchy snack.

It's just like 2big says, look at the list, pick out what you like, and take that along.

Meat and cheese rollups keep me on track! If I find I'm wanting something unhealthy I tell myself I have to eat something induction friendly immediately. A salad is best but if the cravings are really bad, then I choose something with TONS of fat in it to help me out (like bacon). No more cravings and I can get on with life.

I agree with the others about foods to stock up on. Don't worry; your success will keep you motivated!!

As for the cookbook, I think Dana Carpender's books rock!!

Eventually it will seem like second nature! Just this morning I thought "I want a snack." Even though I'm surrounded by high carb food it didn't even occur to me to eat any. I grabbed some string cheese and was a happy little camper. As for recipes I'm a HUGE fan of Linda Sue's website...here's the link...Induction friendly recipes are marked with a *. Endless variety there! http://users3.ev1.net/%7Efontlady/ And it's free! Amazing!

I'm also a huge fan of this recipe website. It ROCKS!!!

Snacks are pretty easy if you think outside the box. String cheese, pickles, pepperoni, flax crackers or flax bread, or acceptable veggies. There's always boiled eggs or deviled eggs as well...

                    Re: need no more convincing

yah and to add to that atkins cookbook, it's quite clear the company wanted to sell their products, so that's why it is laden with those atkins breadmixes and such, I am sure the dear Dr. himself would not have aproved !
So yah, try that link !! It really has tons of ideas there !
