  • getting ready for Atkins

    Hi there,

You guys managed to convince me to start the Atkins WOE and I'm about ready to start.
Tomorrow I have the day off and with the weekend ahead , it's a good moment to begin. Three days to get myself somewhat used to new eating habits.

I have my fridge stocked with mixed greens leaves , red bell pepper , cucumber and red cabbage. Tonight I'll still have to pick up some eggs and fresh meats.

I have a menu for tomorrow in my head and I was wondering if you guys maybe could adjust a bit :

breakfast : omelette made with 3 eggs
lunch :2 cups salad , tuna , dressing of oil and vinegar
    diner : 1 cup broccoli , steak
I'm not sure what snacks I should keep around , are home made meatballs ok? I'm a bit worried that minced meats have carbs in them.

Anyway , I'm ready to go for it! I've never been more motivated and I'm convinced that this time I'll be able to stick to the routine of low carbing.

Looks like you'll be off to a great start. Here in Italy minced meats don't have carbs, just meat. Not sure about what you have in the States, but would think it's the same. If you need a substitute for breadcrumbs to bind the meatballs, you can use flax meal, but remember not to go over the induction limit (one to two tablespoons, I think).

      Happy low carbing!!

Whoops! Sorry... just noticed you are in Europe. Minced meats should be ok for you here!

You can do it, Elke! MY dad started Atkins in Germany years ago. I don't know if much has changed but he was very successful there! You will be successful, too!

            Re: getting ready for Atkins

I make meatballs out of just ground meats (pork beef or turkey) and spices...I don't usually use anything like egg or flax meal for binding. I make them up, put them on a rack or a foil-covered cookie sheet and bake them. I'll make a whackload of them and use them as snacks..they're one of my favourites!

Are you all set up at Fitday? Here's a link to help you out with that if you aren't
            http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5235

Your menu looks good and when you check it at Fitday you'll see how the percentages look, and then you'll know what to tweak, if anything. The only thing I see is that you might want to throw a half cup of mushrooms (or whatever other vegetable you like) into your omelette, just so you are spreading your veggies out through the day.
            All the best to you!

Sounds like your off in the right direction. Planning what to eat before you put anything in your mouth is an integral part of this WOE (way of eating)! Looking forward to hearing about your future successes!
