would you follow what you see on the packaging or what you find in fitday or the usda website?

sometimes these values differ really greatly and i don't know which to follow.

for example, my packet of ground almonds state per 100grams:

    Carbohydrates
    Total - 3.9 g
Fibre - 12.0 g (NOT as a sub catergory under carbs)

but on fitday and the usda website, there is WAY more carbs than this. like 19g carbs per 100g.

    so which should i believe??

    Thanks in advance!

    Re: Nutritional Labels

I enter in foods into my Fitday based on the labels on the package. Fitday assumes a lot about food prep. It's entries are also very generalized. I use the Fitday entries a lot, but for foods that I use regularly, I enter them in myself as custom foods.

        Re: Nutritional Labels

I looked up tomatoes on this nutrition info tracking site (not fitday) and it said a tomatoe had about 4 carbs.....so i ate them this week with that in mind, only to find out today that the box of tomatoes has a nutrition label on the back of the wrapper (never saw it till now) and each tomato really has 7 carbs not 4!

Since I'm in induction I was a little floored cause now I'm like "have i even been staying under 20 this whole time?"

What is the url to Fitday's website???

            Re: Nutritional Labels

first that is a noUS food label and the subtracting the fiber from the total carbs only applies to US food labels Im guessing you have a UK bag of almond meal and your total carbs on your labels are the net carbs for your food. Always go with the manufactures label as long as it doesn't have hidden carbs because they are required to sample a lot from their product and test it to get that info.

Tomatoes have been bred to contain more and more sugar as many folk perfer the sweet taste to the old acidic taste of Tomatoes. as a result older nutrition sites will not be accurate with their info. If you grow your own you know there is a vast difference in the sugar content of say a brandywine and a grape tomato.

As Brook says you want to check the prep of the food on Fitday but if you click on the food the nutritional info is on the left and the prep method is on the right. go with raw foods on fitday when you can and skip their added carbs in the way they think the food you ate was prepared.

            Happy low carbing.

              Re: Nutritional Labels

2big is right - on UK labels the fibre is listed seperately so has been deducted to get the net carbs figure already.
The clue (apart from it being too large to be taken away from the 'total' carb figure) is that on our labels the fibre is in a different category from the total carbs and sugar etc, and usually appears a couple of entries later than the total carb figure.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
