  • Pre-Atkins Eating Habits

I was watching Jacques Pepin's cooking show the other day and he said something that made me wonder. He said that he only prepares dessert when he has guests for dinner. Otherwise, he and his wife don't eat dessert because he gains weight.

    So my questions are

How often did you eat dessert or sweet things( candy, cookies, etc.) prior to Atkins?

    Daily
    5-6 times per week
    3-4 times per week
    1-2 times per week
    Rarely

I hear ya Betty. I'm a starchy carb junkie, so my "dessert" used to be extra helpings of potatoes/rice/pasta. So I was a daily "dessert" er too.

Now my dessert is most likely cheese or fruit, if I have that at all.....

I know, I'm the wierdo here, but I don't like sugar. I've never had a sweet tooth. I ate a LOT of fruit before Atkins and now...I never eat anything sweet, but enjoy eating the allowed fruit occassionally. So, I guess this survey didn't prove anything on my sweet tooth habits.

I stayed the same actually, I ate dessert before rarely and now also rarely, never been a sweet-tooth really, but give me bread and all kinds of things to put on it and I eat the whole loaf.

Pre-Atkins it was daily. Even if it was just a couple of "fun size" chocolate bars. Even on another low-carb plan I was on I would make all kinds of splenda sweets to eat. I stalled big time on that plan and didn't know why.

Now I rarely have anything, even with Splenda. Once I kill the sweet tooth, it seems that even legal treats can start up the cravings again, so I rarely have anything.

I've never been a dessert person, so it was rarely we had it as a family. On Atkins? Never.

                Good questons!

                *Pre-Atkins I rarely ate dessert...
*During Atkins (about a year or so ago) I added the low carb sugar free candy and it became a problem, so I was eating that junk a few times a week.
*Atkins-After Seeing the Light - now I have circled back and rarely have a splenda-ish treat rarely...

                  Re: Pre-Atkins Eating Habits

I rarely had a "formal" dessert after a meal, but I frequently snacked all during the day at work on the various treats -- candies, cookies, etc. -- that we have available.

I don't even see those things, now.

                    Re: Pre-Atkins Eating Habits

Pre-Atkins I ate sweet things like chocolate or potato chips on a daily basis and several times a day when I really binged on them.

Now... maybe twice a month if that and normally at least once of that if I did give in would be hormonal. I still have a sweet tooth but have learned to ask myself 'do I really WANT this and is it worth putting weight on for.... NO'

                      Re: Pre-Atkins Eating Habits

Pre Atkins I ate a pint of ice cream a night along with all kinds of other junk. I had a serious ice cream addiction, it was like heroin. I knew where every ice cream shop was for 50 miles and many of them knew me my name, or at least preference. When you walk into an ice cream shop and they say "you want the usual"? then you KNOW you have a problem.

Post Atkins I can't handle the sugar and never touch it. I tried it once at a birthday party and ate about a half a cup before I realized I didn't like it and it actually made me kind of queezy. Now I do occasionally have a little of the low carb stuff, but usually I'll just have some strawberries and cream. Atkins really killed my sweet tooth. (And my ice cream gut).

My big bugbear was potato. I never met a potato I didn't like! Dessert was the occassional chocolatey thing like chocolate cheesecake - I'd buy one, have a slice every night (with thickened cream!) until it was all gone, then might not buy another one for 6 months. I loved chocolate but it gives me migraine so it was always a natural brake to bingeing on it.

Potato crisps were the worst. I'd have a couple of those little packs (you buy 18 of 'em in a big bag) and then more all through the day. I was seriously addicted, just couldn't stop. I knew I was doing myself harm, but I still put 'em in the shopping trolley.

Now I don't think I could choke them down. Bless Dr A!
