Re: Pain in my leg
Even on induction, you should be getting potassium from meat, fish, and vegetable sources so the diet itself shouldn't be a problem. However, the diuretic effect of the first two weeks of induction might cause a potassium deficiency.
Where exactly does it hurt? Is it a muscle or joint pain? Also keep in mind that you don't always use both legs equally during exercise so it's very possible for one leg to hurt but not the other..Robbie T., 240/180/160. 41yr Male, Height 5'9"

Re: Pain in my leg
If you are having cramping, or that feeling that your leg is about to cramp, then a potassium supplement will definitely help.
BUT
I don't want to freak you out, but if there's swelling in your calf, or behind your knee, the pain is constant and you have trouble walking, and if when you point your toes up the pain intensifies you need to get yourself to a doctor ASAP.
Back in '98, I thought I had pulled a muscle in my left calf, but it turned out to be a massive blood clot in my leg...so don't mess around with something like this. I was lucky, I did all the wrong things before going in to see my doctor (It was a weekend, and I was in and out of a hot tub with it, trying to see if the jets of water could ease the pain..lucky I didn't have a piece break off!)
My leg was slightly sore for about 4 days, and then it began to hurt really badly and swelled up hard as a rock.
Again, don't want to freak you out, but you just never know....and it can never hurt to have things checked out, right?

Re: Pain in my leg
I often get leg cramps, but they get A LOT worse when I'm strict about following Atkins. However, the very very good news is that a potassium supplement quickly solves my problem. If you are having muscle cramps, I'd give that a shot. Because even if this is a side-effect of the diet, it's also very easily fixed.

Re: Pain in my leg
I too had a DVT (blood clot to the leg) But I never knew it till it traveled to the lungs. I was told I was very , very lucky to have survivied this.
I also get wicked cramps in my legs, so I take the potassium and mag.

Re: Pain in my leg
You can certianly have pain from exercise in one leg. But after a few days it should be getting better. My experiece with cramps is......you know when you have them...mega ouch!! Try the Potassium and see if that helps and by all means...get it checked out if it persists. Better to be safe than sorry.elle

Re: Pain in my leg
I had pain in my calf when I first started Atkins. I just made sure I drank more water, took potassium, and started taking Centrum Silver vitamins. The problem went away really quick. My best friend had the same thing happen. I have had superficial blood clots in my foot and that was a different type of feeling, but I can't really explain it.Michele SW250/CW 226/GW150 F, 38, 5'6"
I was down to 175 in 2007 and I will get back there again!
