  • is what I had today acceptable?

Hello all, my name is sami and i recently started visiting this forum. I must say I am getting great feedback here! Thanks a lot to everyone. Ummm.... i have ordered the atkins book from amazon but unfortuantely it is going to take a week for delivery. In the mean time I wanted to get an idea from everyone if what I am eating so far comes under the diet..

    morning: 2 fried eggs.

lunch: lettuce, carrots, 1 tbsp salad dressing, 2 peices (( leg + back ) x 2) of chicken baked in the oven with spices and Ragu tomato sauce.

dinner: lettuce, carrots, 1 tbsp salad dressing, 3 peices ((leg +back) x 2) of chicken fried in deep fryer with ( i first had my mom marinate it with spices, vinegar, and lemon juice)

please let me know if i am on track so far.

I also had one more question: I dont know if this website is canadian or american, but i am in canada and here we have swiss chalet (dunno if they have it in USA or if it is an american brand itslef) They have rotisseri chicken. I was wondering if that is good for this diet. I read on their website and it said that each breast piece has 0 carbs if it is skinless and 1g carb if it has skin. it would be great if i would be able to eat rotisseri chicken.

any advice on anything i am doing wrong thus far?

    thankyou very much,
    regards,
    sami

    Well M,
your here and that's the best start ever.

I'm sure the gang will jump in real soon and tell you all you need to know. I can tell you, since your just getting started you need to print out the wallet size induction list. If it isn't on the list, DON'T EAT IT. Ha, listen to me, don't make my mistakes. Follow the program and you can drop alot of weight.

Also, off the top of my head, I can tell you carrots are not on the induction list and most all tomato sauces have some sugar in them, so I'm thinking that is a no no, at least for now, later I don't know. You'll have others that can tell us both for sure.

I'm interested in hearing what they say about the rotisseri chicken. We get 4 almost everyweek and put them in the freezer (Sam's Club). They are delish and very easy. I hope they are ok too so lets keep our fingers crossed.

Stay strong, read the book and you'll do great. Nice talking too you.

Re: is what I had today acceptable?

since you don't have your book check out our FAQa and indctuion forums for the acceptable foods lists so you will know before you eat it if it is correct not find out afterwards you messed up ( think posioned).
If your rotisser chiocken ingredients are listed in the induction acceptable food lists then it is acceptabel it is that simple.
Those that have read the book know mayonaise an Atkins staple isn't on the list but the ingredients in most mayos egg oil salt vinegar are so you can eat it.

Now on to the menu yep carots will not be legal till you get well into OWL phase, has to do with glycemic index of carrots. But good for you eating your veggies.
You need to add soem vegie carbs to breakfast so you have some carbs, some protein and some fat every meal.

Lori is right about the ragu check your ingredients list ans see. there are some no sugar tomato sauces you can use to make whatevry flavor you need.

On thing you will need to do is get a place to keep your food journal that will help you count your carbs. WWW.FITDAY.COM is a free online place you can do this then you can see if you are getting too many carbs, too much protein or not enough fat. 65% of your calories should be in the form of fats about 30% proteins and keep those carbs under 20 net for induction so your other numbers may be off one or two points.

If you like hot wings those are legal if your sauce is butter and hotsauce.

      How much water you drinking?

      Happy low carbing.

I read on their website and it said that each breast piece has 0 carbs if it is skinless and 1g carb if it has skin. it would be great if i would be able to eat rotisseri chicken.

Swiss chalet chicken is fine..they do marinate it and it does have that 1g of carbs..not sure whats in the marinade on the skin so i usually take it off. DO NOT have the dipping sauce though..it's 7g of carbs and contains corstarch etc.

They have a 'low carb' meal option that comes with roasted veggies (musrooms, peppers, zucchini) and no roll , but i think it's very expensive compared to the regular meal about $8 ..you can buy a whole roasted precooked chicken at the grocery store for less.

I'm quite sure Ragu sauce has sugar in it...i think it's aspaghetti sauce..not tomato sauce. Check the labels for sugar, many have it added. There are some without i cant remember which ones though? maybe Unico or Hunts...And watch the carb count..it must be used in moderation.

Re: is what I had today acceptable?

Thankyou very much for all the input! i know nobody will believe me because i do not believe myself but in 2 days i have lost 1.5 kgs, i was at 117 before and now i am at 115.5 kgs. This stuff really works eh!!

yea Jen, i think the rotisseri chicken at the supermarket would be my best option.
i drank about 5 glasses of water each day. but i only had like 8g carbs per day. there is no such thing as eating too less carbs is there?
i am thinking of eating 5 or less.
i found the induction list, and I think its a great idea to have a wallet sized one so we can keep it in our wallets! i printed that out. and will look at that quite often.

            thankyou everyone for the input.
            regards,

Re: is what I had today acceptable?

well actually you have body parts that can only function with carbs cause thy have no mitochondria so less isn't always good. We also are getting much needed micronutriants in those 3 cups of veggies so you need to consume them.

Think of this as a house you are right now building a strong foundation that will support your Atkins Way of Eating ( known as WOE around here). you don't want any defects in it nor poor grade concrete used. you want the strongest you can get to protect you and support you as you live your low carb life. Eating your veggies and having some veggies carbs some proteins and some of the healthy fats is also practice for propper eating in the other phases. make your foundation strong!

              Happy low carbing.

Re: is what I had today acceptable?

Welcome and congrats on your initial weight loss! That's terrific! You'll soon see more and more pounds (or kilos! lol) melting away.

The others have all given you the best advice for starters. Exercise is also an integral part of Atkins, so the sooner you get moving (if you aren't already), the better!

All the best with your new WOE!

Re: is what I had today acceptable?

I don't recommend you eating 5 or less carbs. Atkins is not set up that way and to be the most successful on the WOE it is better that you follow it how it is set up. Read the stickies in the induction forum until your book comes in. But do recommend that you get the bulk of your carbs from the 2 salads and 1 cup other vegies per day. In fact...kinda think of the 2 salads and 1 c other vegie as a must and work the rest of your eating plan for the day around those.

i was wondering, umm... how much oil are we actually allowed to intake, i mean if i fry fish i wanna know how much oil is allowed? (1/2 cup? 1/4 cup? 1/8 cup?)

                    also, is yogurt allowed?

                    thankyou very much.

Yogurt is not allowed at all. It is loaded with sugars. As for the oil, make sure you are using acceptable oils. Those are listed under the acceptable foods list. I know olive and canola are good choices for you. As for amount, I will leave that to someone else. Welcome!

Re: is what I had today acceptable?

there are no limits on the amount of fats including oils you can have you only eat enough to satisfy your hunger. that said on Atkins you don't drink frying pan grease. you can deep fry and shake off you can saute in the amount your foods need and then enjoy the flavor but make sure you stop when your hunger is satisfied.

Plain yogurt is allowed when you get to rung 2 of OWL and you get 5 net carbs of it if your metabooism can handle it.

                        Happy low carbing.

thanx for all the info. I appreciate everyone helping someone they do not even know! I have another dilemma i am facing. I am on induction as you know, and i have been drinking decaffinated tetley orange tea, say about 2 cups a day. and it does not taste good without milk, but since cream is allowed then would I be able to put that in ma tea. to be exact i will use Neilson Real Cream 18%
will i still be a good boy in the eyes of mr atkins
                          thanx

you can use heavier cream if you want. once you drink your water you can have some tea but what you are using is fine if cream doesn't effect your weight loss as cream is in that speacial catagory foods.

                            happy low carbing.
