  • Now day 2 induction, gained 3 lbs?

Hi there, ive been doing atkins induction for 2 days now and actually gained weight, from 16 str 2 to 16st 5. My meals were as follows:

    Day 1

Breakfast: 3 scrabled eggs, 2 slices bacon

Lunch: Salad including: 1/4 cup cucumber 1.5 cups lattuce, 2 cherry tomatoes ( the very small ones) 50g cheese 3 slices bacon, 50 ml ceasar dressing

    Snack: 80g cheddar cheese

Dinner: Stir fry 3/4 cup Peppers, + 1 cup mushrooms 350g chicken cooked with olive oil + 2 teaspoon dark soy.

Day 2: 3 scrabled eggs, 2 slices bacon

Lunch: Cod with cheese sauce and brocolli (very small amount of brocolli part of sauce whole meal totalled at 5 carbs)

Dinner: Same stir fry as yetserday

Now im not perfectly sure ketosis has set in but it seems likely as i got dizziness and headaches today quite badly. im drinking about 7 pints of water per day.

Remember induction is a 14 day process, 2 weeks! STAY OFF THE SCALE UNTIL THE END! I know it is hard to do, but give it the full two weeks.

Day 2 and your symptoms sound just like induction flu! It goes away in a couple more days. You'll lose weight! Hang in there! Like Bren said, you want to give yourself the full 14 days. You're only supposed to have 3 cups of vegetables. What's the cheese sauce? Did you make it yourself, or is it something you poured from a can?

the cheese sauce was something i made yes has a little cream, some cheese, and some broccoli/cauliflower in it (very small amounts)

I checked the scale after breakfast this morning and the scale show 16 st 0 lb's. SO im 5 lb's lighter than before i went to bed? this seems strange to me !

I am not an expert like Bren & Cleo, but I can tell you that weighing yourself that much will drive you crazy. I used to do that. Morning, noon & night. Now I only weigh myself once a week, in the morning. And you should remember that after dinner and after drinking that much water, you will definitely weigh more than in the morning.

You should really follow Bren’s advice and lock away your scale for the next two weeks.

          Good luck!!

I'm no expert, but I'd say you're having too much cheese. It's one of the foods that is restricted, I try not to have more than 90g a day. It's so amazing to stay of the scale for first 14 days, you get a miracle at the end - I lost 12 pounds and it was great. You'll drive yourself nuts with the scale, don't do that to yourself!! Good luck, Atkins is the best thing that I ever did for myself, I'm sure it will be for you too.

Weigh yourself ONCE a week, and do it at the same time, each day. Most folks find that the first thing in the morning reflects the most accurate progress. Remember, your weight can vary as much as five pounds during the day, so what you weigh in the afternoon can be significantly different than the morning's value.

As a whole, it sounds like everything is as it should be. Do be sure you keep within the vegetable limit of 3 cups. Other than that, just keep doing what you're doing. Don't forget, also, that exercise is NOT an option!

              Wishing you success!

Re: Now day 2 induction, gained 3 lbs?

Im not allowed to excercise? I mean i walk around 5 miles per day just to get to where i need to go............. Today i did some christmas shopping, walked 1.5 miles into oxford city center went buying presents for about 3 hours then walked back the 1.5 miles with 4 bags or so of gifts.

Another thing i noticed is that i can barely bring myself to eat any food today, eating is a chore which i kind of force myself to do now because i wont lose weight if i dont?

Before atkins i was eating nothing more than a snack for the whole day then having 1 really big meal per day (usually a proper take away such as a chicken madras curry, pilau rice, sesame toast starter stuffed naan and some popadums) , a few days ago is the 1st time ive had breafast in maybe 10 years. Since i moved away from home im 10x more active, living at home and Coca Cola ( i used to drink 6 litres a day or so) is what caused me to put on alot of weight.

Also do sleeping times affect your weight loss? Im an incredible insomniac (another reason i started the diet, my caffeine intake was OBSCENE) and sometimes ill just skip a day of sleep.

"Exercise is not an option" means that it isn't optional. You have to do it in order to be successful. You have no choice. So keep up with the exercising! You're doing the right thing.

And yes, you will feel less like eating once ketosis sets in, but make sure you don't go longer than 6 waking hours without eating. It's true that not eating could backfire on you.

                  Keep up the good work!

Chris meant that you have to exercise - it's not an option. Not sure about the sleeping, though.....it could be argued that your body burns more cals while awake but runs more efficiently when it has it's required sleep. You might become less of an insomniac without all the caffeine - just give it a while.

K this was todays dinner, portion ook about right? This was 2.5 cups of peppers/msuhrooms and 300g chicken, obviously the mushrooms and peppers shrank a bit. i also added 1 tablespeed on teryaki marinade to the chicken for extra flavour (its only something like 2 carbs).

I woke up at 11am or so, had breakfast of 3 eggs and 2 slices bacon, and then had this at now which is 4:40pm and had a pepperami in between (its basically a peice of salami totals 1 carb) Later for supper i will have a chinese veg soup (totals 2 carbs)

Re: Now day 2 induction, gained 3 lbs?

You shouldn't have more than 3 cups of vegetables a day. If you have 2.5 cups of veggies in that dish, that only leaves .5 cup for the rest of the day. Try to spread your veggies out throughout the day. Also, did you check the ingredients on the teriyaki sauce? Every teriyaki sauce I have seen has sugar in it. It doesn't matter what the carb count, if it has sugar in it, it's not allowed on induction.

Did you check the ingredients on the bacon? Bacon often has sugar (or something like sugar) in it. It also tends to have nitrates (or is it nitrites?) that can also cause a problem in some people (as does some salami).

I have to cut out cheese/cream/sour cream/cream cheese altogether if I want to see significant results. It's on the day that I splurge and eat these things (even only an ounce or two) that the scale doesn't move for the next four days.

Definitely stay away from the scale until your full two weeks are up! Keep an eye on the veggie intake. If you find it difficult to not stay within the three cup limit, just remember it's only two weeks, then you can go onto OWL, in which you will be allowed more veggies.

Do you know what your ratios of fat/protein/carbs have been?
We aim at 65% fat/30% protein/5% carbs in induction.

You can use a website like www.fitday.com (a good sticky on this in the 14-day induction forum) to log your food intake and it calculates all that for you.

Remember - this is a high-fat, medium-protein way of eating as well as a low-carb regime.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Yes i realise that, i find it very hard to find the fats though. I mean i have mayonase and lots of dressing when i can because thats pure fat, but other than that im usually stuck on what to use other than meat which is mostly 60% protein 40% fat.

When I need to up my fats, I cook things in butter. Pretty much all of my veggies are cooked in butter.
