Well, Atkins naysayers can officially eat crow.
I had my yearly physical appointment with my doctor. Earlier this week I had blood work done and a urine sample taken so that my doctor could run a series of tests before my appointment.
Let me set the scene before I get into my results. One year ago:
- I had high cholesterol - my LDL cholesterol (the bad kind) was far too high, and my HDL cholesterol (the good kind) was far too low. And my triglycerides were atrocious.
- I had high blood sugar. [I was diagnosed with glucose intolerance almost 4 years ago, and was told I'd be a diabetic within 5 years].
- I was deficient in B12.
- I had high blood pressure.
- I was 181 lbs.
In sum, I was a walking disaster waiting to happen. To compare, after 8 months of faithful Atkins:
- I have PERFECT cholesterol levels. I have high HDL cholesterol, and normal levels of LDL cholesterol. My cholesterol/HDL ratio is 3.8 - which is absolutely perfect. Doctors usually want a ratio of 4.5 or less.
- My triclyerides are at absolutely perfect levels.
- My blood sugar is absolutely normal, for the first time in YEARS!
- My B12 levels are absolutely perfect.
- My blood pressure is phenomenal (100/70)
- I'm 145.5 lbs. That's a 36lb loss.
In addition to the above, my kidneys are working perfectly, my liver is totally a-ok, and my overall vitamin level is totally perfect. How about that?
Take that, naysayers. Take that.
