Re: Whatcha think about the South Beach woe?

Actually my Doctor suggested South Beach, when she found out I was on Atkins she said she preferred South Beach but that I should do what works for me as long as I wasn't eating too too much fat and being sure to get enough fruits in my diet.

Yup , I think Dr.'s like it because concentrates more on 'good fats' ie leaner cuts of meats, etc.

It's not really a 'low fat' diet ...just different/less fats.

I think that's valid, sadie, only even Dr Agaston of the SB Book makes the error in saying that all Atkins is is a high-protein, high-fat diet, and he bases his summation on the books written in the 70's, which is the same assumption dieticians and doctors make today. I had to educate my physician regarding the Atkins way of eating, because he also assumed that the Atkins plan hasn't changed since 1970.

The Atkins plan has changed since 1970.

I started doing SB earlier this year, and lost 9 pounds the first week. But after the first two weeks, when you're allowed oatmeal and other good carbs, the cravings became literally unbearable. It was insane. Those 9 came roaring back.

I think it's a good program for some, but not for me. *shrug*

You know you do add grains back on atkins too..not just as soon? I had oat bran for breakfast this a.m. actually

Even though the book says you can add those things back in after 2 weeks..i was under the impression you were supposed to do it carefully, watching for cravings et? kind of like owl..but not as structured. That was my impression anyway...I guess for some people the strict rules just work better. I've never really had self control issues so both diets seem to work for me.

Yes, I'm aware you add back carbs in OWL. Just the way it was done in SB FOR ME didn't work as well, as I became a raving lunatic. Oh, I watched for cravings, I watched them march right over me!

I needed to do extended induction, and am just now, 7 months into Atkins, moving on to OWL. Nary a craving to be seen.
