  • She's cooking pizza and it makes me feel ill.

She's cooking home made pizza for the rest of the family and the smell makes me feel ill. Last week we had family to visit and because of other commitments it had to be something easy. A steak and kidney pie was made in the expectation that I could eat the meaty contents and leave the crust. Same effect - the smell of that steak and kidney ins a thickened gravey made me feel quite ill. I didn't eat it - I had clean grilled sausages instead.

I look often look at what others have on their plates and say to myself "How could you eat that?" I suspect others do the same with me as I relish the fattiest part of the pork chops and look longingly at what they have thrown to the side of their plates.

Is this all in the mind or has my metabolism so changed that I would indeed reject it if I forced myself?

Brian, have I missed something here? Who is the "she" that you are referring to?

Oh and by the way, I totally agree with you about looking at what other people eat. Bless them......

"She" is the significant other, the wife, the Mrs, her indoors, the trouble and strife. Who else? Married 23 years it says in my siggy - nearer 24 now.

And the others are my son a daughter.

        Thanks for the clarification ;-)

It could have been a daughter or even mother in law

          Futher clarification:

I didn't like pizza before - but that was my aversion to cheese.

"When *she* puts the cheese on it and bakes it, I will disappear to the farthest corner of the house.

Brian to answer your question if the carbs in the food are signifcantly higher then you are used to YES it will make you physically ill like a diabetic in sugar shock.

if the smell was grosing you out then eating it you would be experiences ing the smell up close and chances are you would gag.
Good for you not eating it.

Ask your DW if she really would cook food you were allergic to and expert you to eat around that part ofthe dish? Does she know carbs are water soluble too?

A bit of useless information for you -

I made myself an omlette this morning for breakfast, mushrooms, ham, and a few tomatoes. I then melted some cheddar on the top of it.

I served it up flat on a plate, and not folded. and my GF's 10 year old son got all excited because it looked like a pizza, and then told me and his mum that I was eating an Atkins pizza. Bless him

My wife loves toasted cheese - and her special preference is for toasted Stilton - that is (for me) unbelievably awful; so thanks, Richt, for telling me about your lovelly breakfast.

I never tried Stilton on toast. and alas I never will anymore. I wonder what it tastes of? Does it lose its strength when toasted?

Obviously you wont be able to tell me from your own experience.

Funny thing is I have been hankering after mince with dumplings or cobblers, and wondering if I could achieve that by thickening the mince with xantaum gum and making something like dumplings or cobblers with flax.

When the steak and kidney pie was suggested, I was not over the moon but did not object. When I smelled the cooking pot I made "Plan B" thinking I might just have a little of the stewing steak for appearance sake, but when I poured the thick gravy (that was to be served with the pie) into a large gravy boat I realy did gag and decided I could have none of it.

I must admit I was surprised by the stength of my reaction. No point in praising me, 2big, for avoiding the high carb temptation - I was not tempted, I was disgusted.

Re: She's cooking pizza and it makes me feel ill.

So "she" truly is trouble and strife, eh, Lab? 2Big always has a logical explanation. But I've noticed that the Asian women at work won't eat chocolate or any tempting treats. They're complaining it's too sweet, too rich, too, too, too. The rest of us pasty white Canadians (think Pillsbury doughboy in a ski cap instead of a chef's hat) would look at them like they were insane as we scarfed all this stuff down. They didn't grow up with that kind of stuff and it's not part of their diets. So in answer to your comment, yes, I think if the body gets used to not having certain things then it kind of rejects them. So that is good for you even if you don't think you deserve the praise. You've obviously worked hard to get to that stage.

And BTW Stilton?? EEEEEWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!! Does your GF kiss you when you eat that stuff Rich???? Why not just stuff a stinky old sock in your mouth and be done with it?? EEEEEWWWWW! lol

"Trouble and Strife" is Cockney rhyming slang for "wife" and Richt would know that!

                        "Apple and Pears" is "Stairs"

                        "Septic Tank" is "Yank"

Canadians? Not listed and I'm not a Cockney - I can claim to be either a Geordie (from Newcastle upon Tyne) or a Tyke ( a Yorkshireman)
