  • I saw a picture!

AAHHH!!! I just saw a picture of myself that was taken 3 days ago. And it doesn't help at all that in the picture I'm helping grandma make tamales, of all things. I hate that traditional Mexican food is so bad for you! Now, I noticed last week that my jeans are fitting tighter but I didn't think much of it. This picture bares it all though, now I see why my pants fit tighter and it's devastating!! It looks like I have a whole nother side to my face and what looks to be the begining stages of a double chin! YIKES! I'm for sure starting Atkins officially as of 12-26-05! I don't want to feel like this again!!!!!! So here I go guys, it's all or nothing this time around!

Do not be too mad at yourself, anger and disappointment are not going to help you to cope with the 14 days induction ahead!

    Take a deep breath

Read or re-read DANDR one more time, start right now

Don't think induction as a privation time (switch your thoughts from 'what I cannot eat' to 'What I CAN eat') and start planning your meals, water intake and excercise

Every time you need motivation or inspiration visit and above all read the stickies

I am back on plan from today too, after a bad alcoholic/highcarb backslide and determined in succeeding

    good luck to you!!!!

Welcome to this WOE, College_Cheer! I'm glad you are starting now and not waiting until January 1st. That speaks a LOT about your dedication to getting things under control.

I grew up in San Antonio, so I know how hard it can be to be around all that wonderful food and feel like you can't partake. A couple of the solutions I have found are:

      1. When I make enchiladas for my family (usually sour cream chicken enchiladas), it takes up two casserole size dishes anyway, so I just do half (for hubby and dd) where I do the tortilla thing and the other dish is just chicken, cheese and sauce for me. That way I can still get the taste but without the carbs from the tortillas!

      2. When I make fajitas for us (chicken or beef), I put all my meat and veggies (watch the onions, though) in a bowl, pile on the cheese (I usually save all 3 oz for dinner that day), sour cream, 1 Tbsp salsa and guacamole (mmmm, good fats!), stir and eat. I don't even miss the tortillas (okay, maybe when I'm using my finger to get the last of the guacamole out of the bowl, I might think for 0.68 seconds that using tortillas would be less messy, but then I look over at my dd and see her licking the guac off her fingers that oozed out of the tortilla and then I don't miss them! )

So, yeah, you can't have tortillas or chips (or tamales), but that doesn't mean you have to cut off your supply of Mexican food completely! One of the best meals you can get (and cheap too!) is to get the Shredded Chicken Ensalada at Alamo Cafe! Just tell them you don't need any dressing and to double scoop your guacamole on there and you will be SOOOO full, you won't miss the tortillas or chips.

      You can do it!!!

KEEP THAT PICTURE!! It will continue to inspire, motivate and encourage you. Post it on your refrigerator door. Before long, you won't believe you were ever that size!

        YOU CAN DO IT!

You've got the right attitude! Keep that photo in your pocket for the next time you feel like cheating.

              Hey college!

I myself started and stopped about 100 hundred over a 4 year period (from first learning about atkins to starting in July this year).

I never in that first 4 years made in past 8 days in a row before stopping.

              My advice,
You have to give it a really concerted effort to get through the first two weeks without cheating. Prepare in advance. Don't go to other people's place for dinner, or out to a restaurant in those first two weeks. And stick through the detox and changes that occur.

Because... once yopu come out the other side it is so much easier than any other diet to continue!!!

In the first 48 hours I was some depressed (and it's all chemical) that I had suicidal thoughts! It doesn't get much worse than that! Now I'm five months in!!

              You can do it!!
