Does anyone else experience this? I see how much better I look when I look in the mirror, but I have a really hard time seeing my size in clothes. In the past I could look at the plus sizes and say, Yes that will fit me. I can't do that now. I received some new PJ's for Christmas. My old ones fell off when I walked around if I didn't hold them up! LOL Anyway, they were a size Medium and I thought that can't possibly fit me. It looked so small. Well, I tried them on and they not only fit, but look great. My mother also gave me some pants of hers and I looked at them and thought not yet, but I will be in to them by spring. I tried them on and they fit perfect. When will my brain be able to visualize my new size?

That is so totally me! I bought a tshirt that shrunk ALOT when I washed it .. I figured 'OH WELL' and tossed it in a drawer. Just for grins, I tried it on a few weeks later and lo and behold, IT FITS.

Re: fat goggles on when looking for clothes
I know exactly what you mean! I now LOVE shopping for clothes because things ACTUALLY fit, but while I'm looking for my size, I look at it and think that it's way too small, but it fits when I try it on! Makes me very happy heheSteph - Age: 24 yrs - Height: 5'4" - Original Weight: 170 lbs - Current Weight: 155 lbs - Goal Weight: 120 lbs - STAC

Yup, all the time. I was looking to buy jeans last night and I found a size 12 that I really liked. I thought to myself, "No way. My butt is way bigger than this." My DD told me to just try them on. I did and guess what? They fit!

Re: fat goggles on when looking for clothes
I've been at goal for nearly two years (and wearing the same size for almost two and a half) and I still hesitate before picking up 'my size'. Last year I went shopping with a friend and she finally exclaimed, "Oh, would you buy something that actually fits?!" because I was picking loose fitting tops that totally hid my figure.
But then I've seen people buy the next smaller size and start wearing it early, too
If you were like me, you were heavy for a long time and probably tried on a lot of clothes. You're going to have to reprogram your brain the same way - so get out there and try on lots of clothes. This time, you'll probably even enjoy it

Re: fat goggles on when looking for clothes
Yes, me too. I put away the 2 prs of size 16 pants a friend gave me on November because I thought it would be ages before they fit. But everything was way too loose, especially pants - I had the waistband rolled over 3 times on some pairs, so I tried 'em on an I'm now wearing them. It's really hard to take off those fat goggles.Odille

Re: fat goggles on when looking for clothes
I think everyone does it. I still look in the mirror occasionally and find it hard to believe that its me!
Not really what you were asking, but it does fall in the "fat goggles" category.

Re: fat goggles on when looking for clothes
NOT going straight for the plus sizes when I walk into a shop - one of the best feelings I've had all year.
Am looking forward to learning more about this journey of Atkins and seeing how much I can lose in the way of pounds and inches in 2006.
Here's to a peaceful, healthy and happy time for all of us.

Re: fat goggles on when looking for clothes
I am finally starting to visit 'normal' shops for clothes too - it is weird to start with when for years I have known only 'Evans the Outsize Shop' would have anything suitable.
Yes - it actually did used to call itself that a few years ago!! Imagine a chain of shops calling itself that nowadays - very non-PC! LOLWondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Re: fat goggles on when looking for clothes
I know exactly what you are talking about. I still find myself buying clothes in sizes larger than I should out of habit because I can "hide" in them. My brain "sees" myself much bigger than I really am even though I know it's not accurate.Val
