Re: newbie here with a ?
Hi Tammy,
as you may have noticed we have a sepcialized forum on Thyroid & Atkins on this board, hop over there to read some of the stickies.
What about your husband, does he want to lose weight, would he be willing to do it the Atkins way? The first thing needed is dedication. Maybe you could show him this board and how to navigate, some of the before and after pics (these are awesome, believe me).
Many people have lost weight the Atkins way, even on thyroid meds, so I am sure he or you together can do it, too. It'll take some effort on both of your sides (and that means you have to go on the diet with him, it won't help if he cannot eat what you eat). But if you need him so badly that should be an easy commitment?
Welcome to this board, and maybe we can welcome your hubby soon, too. Read the book, read the stickies (in particular those in the Induction and in the Thyroid section), I suggest you both take the decision how to move on together - and stick to it. if you decide to live the Atkins WOL, we willa ll be here to support you.

Yemenitegreen gave you some really good advice.
Buy the book, both of you read it cover to cover. Introduce him to this board, and then dedicate the next two weeks to Atkins. Let him decide from there if this is something he can do. It has to be his decision, but you can be his support. The first few days are hard but keep reminding him that it will get easier every day after that.
I hope to see you back with your hubby. I have changed my life so much already. I hope that your husband can do the same.Michele SW250/CW 226/GW150 F, 38, 5'6"
I was down to 175 in 2007 and I will get back there again!

Get the book and read it...read it with your husband...talk about the reasoning behind Atkins....the idea that you can stabilize your blood sugars with the proper foods and eating habits, and this in turn will cut down cravings for 'illegal' foods.
In a nutshell, when you eat a carby food, it raises your blood sugar level, you have that rush, then you crash and your body wants more carby food to lift you up again. It's a ferris wheel of carby disaster. Atkins is formulated to keep a person on an even keel and takes away those cravings that keep us going back for bad snack after bad snack.
As Dr. Atkins said, "Give me two weeks". Read the book, Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution, version 2002 (DANDR for short) and commit to the two week induction period.
Get your husband to start an account here and have a look around at the Before and After forum for inspiration. In particular, look for Kent the admin's posting and see what a difference he's made in his life. We are all just ordinary people here and this is what Atkins did for us. Thank goodness for the board though, because you'll no doubt have all sorts of questions and this is a great place for answers and support.

Re: newbie here with a ?
you and hubby have two choices go all out and start induction or take it slow and back into Atkins. the cholseterol changes come faster with the all out change but it is easier to get a nondieter on Atkins backing them in. if you made the brwd low carb or whole grains and the roll the same then he was eating OWL rung 9 foods yesterday. just the amounts were too high mostlikely. See Atkins isn't hard.
Get a copy of DR ATKINS NEW DIET REVOLUTION 2002 edition known as DANDR around here and read it cover to cover so you understandit then sit down with hubby and with the book ask him if he could go 14 days of only eatting the foods listed in chapter 11 because if he has them and his normasl high carb breads and stuff then he will increase his chlesterol and gain weight. OR could he prefer to eat limited amounts of those foods he is already having that have carbohydrates in them (everything other then water meat and fat.) Let him read it and let him decide. if he thinks he can do induction then jump. Clear out the house cause like any junkie your Hubby will suffer withdrawal almost flu like symptoms and WANT carby fods so in essence the whole family has to Atkins at meals they will be sharing with him in the beginning. they can have more veggies then him but don't torture him by seving yourself his favorite cereal or sweets while he is trying to adjust to Atkins. Once his ketosis appetite control kicks in by about day 4 he should have a much easier time.
One thing about doing Atkins if you workoutside the home you need to recurit coworkers to be part of your team so they can help you be strong and not give in to high carb foods like doughnuts candies and stuff that are all over office break rooms.
Happy low carbing.
Also LDL is raised by low thyroid too so as his thyroid hjormiones get back in range his LDL will come down some on its own but if he has a history of high LDL then it will not be enough.by the book atkinseer
