  • Blood Pressure Going Down!

Just thought I'd share a bit more good news. On 19 Nov my BP was 183/96, and yesterday it was 157/89, my first reading under 90 diastolic for a L O N G time. I'm very pleased with this in 5 weeks, it shows it is working well. Unfortunately, I did not get a BP at the start because the Dr I found up here (I'd only been to him once) said Atkins was a fad diet and he would not treat me if I wanted to follow it, at which point I left. I will be getting cholesterol checked in the New Year, as I still haven't found a Dr, I'm getting BP doe at the chemist (pharmacist).

I agree that is great for you, you should never have to compromise yourself for doctor that your paying your hard earned money. Too many of them have ego complex (god complex) Your doctor should tell you the truth that he doesn't know but he is willing to find out. You know there is a reason they call it practicing medicine

          Dear 2big

I see that you lost 146 lbs all up. Can I ask how long it took? This is about what I need to lose. And how do you do on maintenance, do you have to be very strict on yourself or has your body adjusted? And how much exercise do you do in a week nowadays? (Sorry to be so nosy!)

Great news on the BP front. Tell your doctor you on a low-glycemic diet instead of saying you're on Atkins. It's not a fib, because Atkins is low-glycemic.

Had it done on Saturday (7th Jan) and down to 145/84! That's a good idea about saying I'm doing Low GI, I'll remember that.

                    Re: Blood Pressure Going Down!

Way to go Odille!!! That's a great drop! May I ask, are you also on any meds for BP?

The reason I ask is because I am. I'm hoping to get this enough under control that I won't need the meds anymore. Mine before meds were around 145/90, and with I am normally around 115/70. I check it often at home with a panasonic wrist cuff, which I took to my dr. to make sure it matched what he was getting. If I see mine going down, with my increased exercise and weight loss then I'll see if I can get him to cut it back, then maybe eliminate it completely!

Again, way to go, you're definitely headed in the right direction!

                      Re: Blood Pressure Going Down!

                      Hi Rick

No, not on any meds. I saw my mother go that road (caused by overweight, although not as heavy as me in properotion ot her size) with diuretics, beta blockers and a whole lot of other CRAP! We both have bad reactions to drugs and she tried 28 (yes, that is twenty eight) different BP meds before finding one that suited. If it had a bad side effect, she had it.
Incontinence at both orifices! (bet blockers)
                      Headaches
                      Itching
                      Joint pain
                      Eyesight affected
                      and lots more.

So I was really determined not to do that.

I had 3 eye bleeds from sneezing last year when I had the flu, and they scared the S**T out of me. To go into the bathroom and see in the mirror that the wite of your eye is full of blood is ALARMING! So I'm feeling really happy about it approaching normal. Will keep posting here.
I go to the chemist (pharmacist) every week or so and they have given me a little card where they record it all (I have made a column for my weight for my own record) and I put it in my journal ( a 2006 diary for this year) as well. Cheaper than the doctor too - it's free!

Saturday's reading is 122/80 - NORMAL RANGE!! YAY!!

Nice to not feel like a ticking time bomb any more. I read a report yesterday which said eating more vegetables can help lower blood pressure, too, and I'm certainly eating more good veggies now. Before Atkins I ate a lot of paotato and carrot, now it is more leafy greens. I meant to bring the article to post here but left it at home, will do it tomorrow.

Congrats on getting to the normal range!

You are a real 'convert' to Atkins aren't you! lol!

I've never had issues with BP (lucky me). At 215 kilos I got my blood pressure checked by doctor and he said I was normal.

                            Good for you!
