  • Breakfast Question

    Re: Breakfast Question

I eat mainly non-breakfast foods for breakfast. My current standard is chicken fajita salad prepped in advance only to be reheated in the morning. I've never been a fan of eggs, so breakfast is usually similar to pre-lunch. Some days breakfast is leftovers of the dinner last night or two nights ago. There is nothing saying you have to eat traditional breakfasts just because it is the first meal of the day.

Today I ate chicken breast with some cheese on top. Breakfast can be what ever you feel like it to be.

they keep well in the fridge and are nice hot or cold.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

I'll make extra dinner and have it for breakfast.
Or take turkey breast, a little cream cheese, spinach leaves and make rolls ups.
Make tuna or egg salad and put it in romaine leaves.

                Re: Breakfast Question

I haven't found a single one that was entirely Induction legal. The Atkins stuff is certainly not legal. Here are the ingredients of one of them:
INGREDIENTS: SOY GRITS, WHEAT GLUTEN, SOY PROTEIN ISOLATE, CORN BRAIN, CORN STARCH, RICE FLOUR, POLYDEXTROSE, INULIN, CANOLA OIL, SLICED ALMONDS, DRIED BLUE BERRIES, NATURAL AND ARTIFICAL FLAVORS, CARMEL, COLOR, SALT, SUCRALOSE (SPLENDA BRAND SWEETENER), VITAMIN E (MIXED TOCOPHEROLS) AS NATURAL ANTIOXIDANTS AND FOLIC ACID
Then the question becomes what do you eat it with? You can't have low carb milk until the dairy rung of OWL. You could use heavy cream cut with water, but it's not likely to have the same taste you want.

                    Re: Breakfast Question

                    Hi oshi,

Have you read the 2002 Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution Book?

If not, you'll want to. It explains the different rungs of the Atkins 'way of eating'.

Many of the ingredients in the cereal are not on the Induction Food List.

It may be something you want to add into your diet, but not until you've reached the grain rung.

Also, one of the things that you'll find here on ADBB, we follow Dr Atkins way of low carbing (by the book) and not the website and what they sell...that website has changed a lot since Dr Atkin's death.

                    Hope that helps!
                    Shelly

These are excellent. I make them often.

I also love taco salad for breakfast. This is the repice I use, I spoon it over baby spinach leaves with cheese and sometimes a dab of sour cream & salsa:

Taco Bell Seasoning - Recipe by Luna

                      Ingredients:
                      1 lb hamburger
                      2 teaspoons chili powder
                      1 1/2 teaspoons dried onions
                      1 1/4 teaspoons salt
                      1 teaspoon paprika
                      3/4 teaspoon beef bouillon granules
                      1/4 cup water
                      1/2 teaspoon splenda
                      1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
                      1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
                      1 dash onion powder

                      How to Prepare:

Fry the hamburger with the dried onions. I drain the hamburger (that's up to you) and then I add the water to the pan and the rest of the seasonings. After they're mixed, I add the hamburger back in.

I've read where some people choose to skip the beef bouillon granules. I like the flavor they add personally.

                        Re: Breakfast Question

I'm a die-hard English heritage breakfast traditionalist. Eggs with some sort of breakfast meat, and tomatoe; sometimes with a bit of cheese to make an omelet. I've done this virtually every day since the start of induction.

Having grown up in the deep South, however, I do, on occasion, have country ham with red-eye gravy (which I put over scrambled eggs, since I can't have grits). I used decaf coffee to make the gravy. To me, it's a wonderful treat!

Easy. They are out to make cash. It is in their best interest to sell it to you, but it is not in your best interest weight loss wise to eat it.

Or it could be legal for later phases of the diet. You could certainly eat that cereal in later phases of OWL as you hit the whole grain rung. It is all about eating the appropriate foods at the appropriate phases. There is nothing wrong with the cereal for those people. It just is not legal for Inductionees.
