  • Cappuccino & Latte lovers dream!

    I'm 6 days in now and missing my flavored Latte's/cappuccino's dearly. I awoke in the middle of the night last night remembering that the corner coffee cafe (Coffee Beanery) carry's sugar free syrups and I couldn't wait for day break so I could investigate these further possibilities.

    I was there at 6:30 am and once there I discovered not only do they carry about 5 sugar-free syrups but also they now have a thick sugar-free caramel sauce (made from splenda)…YUMMMM! Let's just say I left there one very happy girl.

    I had to pay a little more for the thick caramel and half & half but it was so worth it.



    Here's what was inside my VENTI LATTE:

    Half & Half (instead of milk) added cost

    Decaf espresso

    Sugar-free caramel sauce (2 pumps) added cost

    Sugar-free caramel syrup (1 shot)



    HEAVEN!



    While on the topic of flavored coffee drinks I have a cupboard full of wonderful gourmet sugar-free (splenda) syrups used for coffee, tea, sodas and more. For those of you who might be interested, the line is called "DAVINCI". I get some of mine from a local health food store who carries about 20 different flavors but I also have ordered off the website www.davincigourmet.com. They carry so many wonderful products and amazing flavors, you can do so many things with them!

    Remember to count those syrups in your carb count and in your splenda usage!

    FYI..... IF there is a T.J.Maxx or a Marshall's in your neck of the woods you can by the DaVinci sweetners for about 1/2 the price.

      Yes, I do include them in my counts.

      I buy my products for 6.95 a bottle, are they cheaper than that at the stores you mentioned? I would have thought Marshal Fields would be more.

          Shirley use real cream and you will not havce to worry about if it is the other 1/2 that is effecting your weight loss.

          WOW that latte used up a whole day's worth of sweetner as the limit is 3 servings a day. so i hope it was just a specail treat for you. remember Dr Atkins knew desserts and sweets were what got us needing Atkins tobegin with and warned Desserts and sweets were to be occasional treats not everyday events.

            FYI...

            I went to have an Americano this afternoon and asked for a couple of pumps of their sugar free Torani carmel sauce (not the syrup)...I was paying for it and just glanced at the label...humm...what??? 19 carbs...on no!

            I did see that the container said splenda, so I'm not sure where the carbs are coming from, but I'm going to check out their website right now and I'll let you know.

            Luckily I hadn't drank any yet! Yep, here's the facts from the Torani website:

                Hi shirleyhon,

                Check out page 171 - 174 of DANDR, it shows the rungs. Dairy is #2, so that's when you can add milk products.

                  wow so even if you did a net effective carb count that is still 5 carbs per 2T so that latte just blew MSU MOMMY's day. I hope she sees this before she has tomorrows latte.

                  Lesson learned sugar free does not mean carb free.

                    Exactly, it was a good lesson learned

                    ...and usually I check it out, but I asked her if she was sure it was sugar free and had splenda...I'm so glad I actually looked at the label myself!

                      That is alot of carbs for carmel. If it is sugar free, then something else has to have the carbs.

                        Yes - that glycerine has added the carbs

                        Some people who are resistant to weight loss report that glycerin and sugar alcohols can produce stalls.
                        Personally I count all the carbs of sugar alcohols and the like, which keeps my use of them very low!! Most of them dont have the 'bathroom effect' on me, and I read on one of the boards that this means my body IS absorbing them so they should be counted.
                        Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

                          actually the bathroom effect has nothing to do with you absorbing them. and I hate when folk post that so convensingly on other sites. Intestinal bacteria break them down into absorbable compounds but that takes place where the bacteria are usually in the lower gut so less is absorbed then plain sugars but every body absorbs them once this occurs.
                          The bathroom effect is complicated and a hard concept to understand but many sugar alcohols are naturally occuring chemicals in fruits and veggies so even if you never eat a frankenfood you are eating SAs every day. The human body even makes thems which surpized me when I studied up on them. The bathroom effect is based on the total amount of sugar alcohols in your gut from all your foods both natural and frankenfood, and how sensitive you are to those type of things.
                          We all know somebody who has to use 2 doses of a laxative to get them to work. Then FDA required the SA manufactures to test and see what the minimum threshold for them in grams was to evoke the bathroom response and it varied from 20 g for mannitol sp? to over 120 g for some (and no effect for one of them.) that means unless you have say 70gs of say sorbitol in your gut and you are sensitive to it then you will not react. when the total SA for a candy serving is 12-30 you shouldn't get a bathroom effect from a single serving unless they used mannitiol but as the Atkins company found out switch to other SAs and the everybody has it bathroom effect goes away which was what they did to their bars in 2002.

                              oh yes you should count them.

                              they are not mythical magical noncounting counting carbs, but the bathroom effect should not be the deciding factor was all I was trying to point out.

                              I count everything but fiber cause by low fiber has to go in your mouth and come out your readend unmetabolized in any way. those are true noncounting carbs
