It is the 2nd phase of the Atkins plan. Each run adds in a new food group. Its in the book.
    Happy new Year

I have the book but I don't recall anything being called a rung. I'll check again.

          Re: Rung ?

On page 171 of my cpoy of DANDR he gives a list of the order to add the different types of food which he calls the 'Carbohydrate Ladder'. Although he refers to the different groups as 'levels' I always think of them as 'rungs' on the ladder ('cos with a real life ladder the bars across are often called rungs), and I suppose others here have had the same idea, so we often do refer to the levels as rungs.

Thank you for asking for clarification on this - I am sure others have been wondering about it just the same as you did!

Congratulations on the cheatfree days so far too as well as giving up the ciggies
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

I found that in the German edition (even the updated 2002 and later) of DANDR the rungs are not mentioned, BUT in Atkins for Life they are explained in detail. The rung thing confused me first, too.

Somewhere on this board there are graphics / banners with the rungs in numerical order.

So how is OWL explained in the German edition?

It's all about adding carbs in 5 gram increments. using the carbohydrate 'ladder' but there is no mentioning of what to add and when, and there is no such idea as the rungs, but you could mix your foods wildly - yogurt today, nuts tomorrow, legumes the day after... I guess the so-called revised edition over here wasn't revised at all. I have a copy of the English 2002 DANDR and it is really different.

I've found that many books lose some of their content by localisation when translated, so I knew what to expect... I tend to read the original version if I can read the language - no problem. Still, for someone who has just read about carb increments, the rung idea is new.

Actually, I think the concept of rungs is one of the best parts on Atkins, at least for me. I have a myriad of food allergies and sensitivities to handle, and some of them are 'hidden' (as: I can only have various raw fruits when there isn't a molecule of dairy protein in my system, but I don't react to dairy directly), and the slow and conscius elimination process - I konw it is adding food but in the end it is eliminating those foods that don't work for you - is very helpful.

                  Re: Rung ?

OT with the localization of DANDR rather than just translation has me fascinated, are there other differences for local foods mentioned in Acceptable Food Lists? I would presume there might be, and if a German was able to eat something on Induction where the English version doesn't mention it, I want to know. I might have been robbed out of eating something. Very wise words yemenitegreen through about OWL and food allergies too.

Thank you all for clearing this up for me...I went back to my book yesterday and I did find the ladder in the OWL section. I sorta figured it out from there. But thank you for responding to my question.

Yemenite, thanks for that info. So the German edition's OWL is comparable to the 1992 Diet's OWL. That's something worth sticking into the International Forum.

                            Megs,

I'll head for a book store this week to double check on the latest edition available.
