Re: 10 steps to a great "Bucket"!!!!

ok the reason for the thread!!!

                          1. Of course read the book. If you can't or really do not want to ...then yes there is enough info on this board to cover any aspect of it so at least read the FAQ's here.

                          2. Learn to cook... Go into the cooking chat and read! Ask questions!... There are pages and pages of info on how to make great easy food! I really believe that one of the downfalls of any diet plan is the lack of time, ability and desire to cook for yourself...I read and hear a billion different excuses and not one single reason that anyone can not make decent food for themselves and others. Trying to find instant anything is what got us into this in the first place.

                          3. Don't eat crap! Especially during induction! By crap I mean anything that is not made by a person from fresh ingredients. Simple as that. No fast food, no prepackaged anything.....if it goes in your mouth it should be as full of life, flavor, pleasure and love as possible. There is no point in eating food if it is not good and it is not good if it is not good for you.

                          4. Do not use "it is too expensive" as an excuse. If you can not afford the book then go to the library and borrow it. Short of that every bit of info you need to follow this plan is on this board someplace. Changing out your pantry is expensive if you feel you have one day to do it. But just because Dr Atkins says that in the book some of us need time to adjust to a new way of cooking and eating and we do not all of the food budget to just give all our food away and start again. So if you can not do it than ease into it.

                          5. Ease your body, mind, budget, family and pantry into this. Instead of trying to drastically change your entire life in the midst of your life...ease into it. Learn it. For me having not really done a good job the first time I started...and a worse job the second time. the third time I eased myself and family into this. ... I set a restart date and then began revamping breakfast. I never tossed a box of cereal I just stopped buying it and then began buy, finding recipes for, cooking and eating a great induction style breakfast every day and how to plan for those days I had to rush out the door. Lunches, I scoped all the things I could find to bag that would go in a brown bag. Mostly I take dinner leftovers but there are tons of things you can make and take...one of my favorite rush out the door need a lunch items is red bell pepper stuffed with cream cheese and olives ..I have everyone at work eating that now! Another really good tip is ..if you do like lunch out ..before you are pressed for time and on induction if possible, check out and try the lower carb choices on your favorite places menu. Like the Pho' joint we go to ...will give me tons of sprouts, basil and veggies and leave out the noodles from my soup. Or the Mexican place I love does a great seafood soup on Fridays....that way you walk in and you can order with out looking at the menu. Then tip well and they will remember

                          5. Drink water. This is not negotiable. There are also pages and pages on this board on all the reasons you need to drink water. Water like air is something we have to have to live! The only water that counts as water is water. Not soda, not drink mixes and not even flavored soda water. Those are ok but really what water is by nature is the only thing you should be counting as water...tap water is fine ...if yours tastes good then drink it there are minerals in there you need. Do not say you don't "like" water ...what is to like??? Do we stop breathing because we do not "like" air???? It should not even be in your brain that this is an option because it is not and you will loose weight if you drink your water

                          6. Eat vegetables..come on no saying "I don't like vegetables" that is silly and childish....if you really do not like them and will not eat a wide variety daily... ..well then forget this plan because ...you hair will fall out ..you will get constipated and you will not be healthy ....take that list of vegetables and give each and every one a try if you can find them....a good idea for veggies is to try it each one 3 ways and if you still do not like it bag it and try it again later when you have detoxed.

                          6. Move your body. I ran for several years after loosing quite a bit of weight then stopped cold..gained weight and realized if I am going to keep my weight off I have to move. Now I do not like or do any formal exercise program anymore. I burned out completely on that. So what right do I have to tell people to exercise if I don't. Well here is what I do do. I am fierm believer of "if you do not use it you will loose it". So because I do not do any formal exercise I make very sure that I am moving most of the day. My job on most days in constant motion and when it is not I make it that way. I am fidgety anyway so this helps. I park as far from work as I can. I use the stairs as often as can. I stretch a lot during the day. I chuck paper wads at my coworkers and have to duck their attacks back at me ....I play trash can basketball all the time ..I stand at my computer instead of sitting ..I am remodeling a house...I do yard work and play with my dog.....best of all I count making love as the best of all exercises for the body, mind and spirit... and participate in it as often as possible.

                          7. Resolve conflicts..one of the worst things you can do when starting a whole new relationship with food is to have a bad relationship in your life. So resolve it. Even if it means you have to take a break from that relationship or go pay someone to help you fix it. If you are in turmoil with someone close to you that does not help your resolve to change your relationship with food. Please resolve the conflict and then you will have more support and desire to change what is going on with you and food.

                          8. Resolve anger. Anger and bitterness are two emotions that can sabotage the best of us. Figure out why you are angry and fix it before you go into this and try to keep a check on your anger during this. I have a temper so I know what I speak of here ... Remember it is your problem not someone else's that you are angry. Yes people make us mad...but then to stay made means you took that problem on...My brother makes me nuts...he can be such a jerk! one day when he made me furious about something very insensitive he had done....he looked at me and said ..."Heidi being angry at me is like pissing down your own leg the only one who feels it is you!" ..he is right...he can be an *** but he is right about that. Anger is yours and if you like pissing down your own leg then keep being angry ..but know that will get in the way of your weigh loss especially if you are an emotional eater!!!

                          9. Be flexible and positive... do not fixate on what you can not have or do.. ...good grief you can have, eat and do anything you want you know? However if you want to loose weight then focus on making the good food choices and trying new things with flexible and positive attitude. If you can not give up sugar than this plan is not for you. Just know that even if you said never before ...you can always change your mind ..no one can fault your for being fickle unless you let them

                          10. Passion and Sexuality!!!!!....Find it...use it....display it!!!!....Anyone who knows anything about me ...knows that along with cooking and food ...this is my favorite topic of discussion. (of course cooking food and passion to me are all the same thing) ..the reason I put this one at the bottom is I want to save the best for last.....one of the best things I can tell you to do and hope you will understand what I mean when I say you must find your sexuality and passion...it is such an amazing gift, it is free and does not have to turn off ...not at all ...not ever ...but you have to keep reaching down and yanking it back up to the surface...sexuality and passion have nothing to do with being with someone ...you can have amazing passion all by yourself and your sexuality is something you never have to share ...you can just have it!!!! It is physical, emotional, spiritual, and it burns fat!!!! Flaunting is kind of over the top for some people ..but if you are passionate and sexy you walk with your back straight, your head up!!! You sit up not slouch...you exude self confidence and power and when you feel all those things you are more likely to do what it takes to keep yourself looking and feeling that way ...introverted or extroverted find that feeling of beauty (handsomeness), sexuality and passion and get it out there .....express yourself... good posture....get your head up, straighten your neck but keep your chin down, shoulders back, chest out, stomach in, hips follow legs and move like you have intent...

                          good luck my friends

Re: 10 steps to a great "Bucket"!!!!

I did not as I said come up with this alone ..it was all of you helping and supporting me....staying at goal is not so hard ..the worst part is not becoming complacent because I have stayed down so long

one other tip I want to share and it may or may not be helpful to you...is that I did not tell anyone I was doing any special diet plan...I just did it around the rest of my world....

what I mean is I never said " I can not eat this" I just didn't put it in my mouth. When I had dinner at people's houses I ate around things... in restaurants even on induction no one knew because I ordered and ate around the high carb foods....if I was not sure ..like one time I was going for Dim Sum ..I posted and asked on this board about what things were good to order ...and I think it was Not2late who gave me the whole run down of dim sum....so when I went I knew exactly how to deal with it!

friends and coworkers would ask me "you have lost so much weight how are you doing it?" ...I just said I am "eating really well and not eating any crap"..all true!....unless they sincerely seemed like they wanted to loose some weight I did not tell them "my secret"...I just lived by example..people see what I eat all the time and I bring wonderful food to share! The comments are usually "How do you eat this food and stay so thin?"

I think this is like religion kind of and it is not up to me to try to "convert" anyone...sure I wish people were thinner...I am a nurse and having to deal daily with the terrible impact obesity has on people ...when I know in my heart it should be differant is hard...well anyway....the answer just is not that simple for everyone ...and in my case my contacts are so short and my volume of patients are so high in a day... unless I really see a "window" to make an impact ..I just treat the issue at hand and have to move on. But there have been some windows and in those cases a few folks have and continue to loose weight I am happy to say

because you can not change other people ..you can only change yourself and your own attitude ..I opted to not make a big deal and never ever said "I can't eat ...."
because I can eat anything ...I am just eating things I love and that love me back!!!
