  • Am i Dead???

    arghh..i know all my thread titles are getting scary but really am i dead?
    talk about THR zone
    i am 25 and my heart rate is always between 58/78..
    i noticed it after i bought my love of life(treamill)..i was walking 4.5 miles per hour and my heart rate was just 58 to 78..at first i thought it isnt working propely..
    next day i did incline 7 at 5.5mph,and it was between 68/92..i was sure machine is wrong
    then my mom who is 55 she did 2.5 mph and her heart rate was between 100/117(perfect for her)

    am i too relaxed person or should i really see a doctor
    today i was doing 6.5 mph and literrally running and the best i could get was 92
    it should be between 117 to 136

    what is wrong with me?
    if i am working out and getting this low rate ,,when i am not exercising my heart is i think just sleeping ,such a couch potatoe!

    I don't think anything is Wrong with you My resting heart rate is usually 46-50 I walked around the mall for an hour did my BP and HR and it was only 56 so I don't think you need to worry but, if you are go get it checked out.

      Sadie,

      I think that sounds off...resting pulse is one thing, but if you're walking/jogging at that incline and miles per hour, you should be hitting a much higher heart rate.

      People that are in excellent cardio shape still are able to get their heart rate up there to mid or max rates...it's quick recovery time that shows the cardio fitness.

      I'm no expert, but that's my 2 cents!

        I don't know alot about this but from what I've heard is that a lower heart rate means that your body is in great cardiovascular shape - unless you have low blood pressure. But I could be wrong....

          My Mum has always had a very low resting and exertion heart rate, and so did I until I got fat. In 1983 I had an operation for deafness, and the probationer nurse who took my pulse (I think it was about 38 - I WAS lying in bed) went out get the sister, she was so worried!). Perhaps you just have a naturally low heat rate. Go to the doctor and get it checked for your peace of mind.

          When exercising do you feel you are exerting yourself - perspiring, breathing more deeply etc. If you do, then you probably are.

              Are you on any medications? I know some BP meds will lower the heart rate.

                Are you on an medications, I know my BP meds lower heart rate. While we don't give medical advise on this board, I think I can say without hesitation that No, you are not dead.

                  well to be honesteven at even 8.5mph i dont sweat at all!!
                  i do breat a bit heavily but not like if i am wearing myself off,at 5.5 i dont feel that i am even walking...
                  i do smoke but i am not on any kind of medications

                    It sounds like you have a healthy pulse. I would not worry.

                        I once began an US Air Force fitness evaluation with a resting pulse of 45 bpm. Sounds to me like you have an optimal pulse rate, and your heart isn't having to work that much at all. Good for you.
