  • Finally weighed in.....

    This was in my journal, but figured I would cross post it here. I haven't weighed since May where I was around 300, I started excercising heavily in September and have gone from a 48" waist to 40".

    Well my new scale arrived and I am glad I didn't have one up to this point. I am at 295lbs. So since I started lifting I lost 5 lbs....not much. I was actually shocked/dissapointed as everyone keeps telling me I lost a "ton" of weight

    HOWEVER, since I started lifting my waist went from 48 to 40 inches which means I put on LOTS OF GOOD QUALITY MUSCLE and LOST A LOT OF GROSS FAT. Especially since muscle weighs more than fat and the mirror says the fat is going.

    All this muscle is well and good, but now I have decided to kick everything into the next phase. I am going to go into a full cutting phase. I started yesterday by adding 45 minutes of cardio when I wake up and 45 minutes at night after my workout.

    With my 1 hour of weights a day I will by at 2.5 hours a day of excercise 5 days a week. This shoudl go a long ways in bringing out more definition and cutting my waist down to the 34-36 range.

    Also a result of my weigh-in I am adjusting my goal from 185 to 200 (it may need to go higher - one friend thinks 225). Not because it is easier, but I have more muscle than ever before and getting to 185 would require losing muscle too. Ultimately when I get closer I will switch this to a BF number of 12%.

    So I had a SCALE SHOCKER, but that is why I put it off so long. If I had been weighing all this time and only lost 5lbs. I would have been in trouble.

    Hi AJ,

    Well I'm sorry you were disappointed in the number on the scale, but the inches lost around your waist tells a different story, that's for sure!

    I'm really happy for you and your success! I'll bet you'll be in those 38's by next month!

        That is amazing progress, and why I focus more on my body fat percentage than I'll ever lend any creedance to the BMI. Congrats on getting rid of all the fat and building what you really want!

            Welcome to 200erville.

            congrats on the great job you have done morphing your body as you have shed over 40% of the scale weight you want to lose. it is really to bad you didn't have a body fat% when you started so you could actually see how much muscle weight you have added and fat weight you have lost.

            The new aerobics should help you a lot too.

              Adding 1.5 hours of aerobics a day has been very effective so far. I also reduced calories a little more. Yesterday I was down 1.6 lbs. and this morning another .6 so a good kick start for cutting.

              My strength has suffered a little but I expected it to. I'll have to balance strength and cardio when I get down closer to goal. I really need to get a set of calipers for BF measurements.
