    CHICAGO - Older women who ate less fat and more carbohydrates lost about 2 pounds over seven years, a large study showed.
    Two pounds over seven years? I guess technically it works.

    CHICAGO (Reuters) - Post-menopausal women who cut their fat intake and eat more high-fiber, high-carbohydrate foods such as fruits and whole grains tend to lose weight, not gain it as some diet books claim, a study said on Tuesday.

    I'm thinking I would of given up on that diet long before 7 years....

        What a load of bunk!
        Someone spent money on that study! wtf ?

        The obesity expert is right - the result is very dissapointing.

        Instead of the 86 pounds I lost in the last 5 months, I should have stuck to their recommended diet and lost 0.14 pounds ?

          well Dr Atkins does say in chapter 11 any plan where caloric intake is less then calories burned fron all sources will cause weight loss He just thinks his plan gives us an advantage which we all agree with.

            Hmm..lets see if I lost 2 pounds every 7 years it would only take me...367 and a half years to reach my goal.

                  This study is seen as a success by the low fat community exactly how? You certainly might be able to maintain your weight on low fat, low calorie, but I certainly wouldn't want to.

                        Guess what? As this link points out, the subjects actually decreased their carb intake.

                        The women across this study - from both groups - reduced the amount of carbohydrate in their diet (go look, it's in the data...better yet, look at the table that summarizes the data!)

                        Both groups, in fact, specifically reduced the number of grain servings they consumed each day. While the intervention group did indeed increase the number of servings of vegetables and fruits, this is not an increase in carbohydrate consumed because both groups decreased their calorie intake.

                        So, the net gram intake from carbohydrate actually decreased for both groups! But, that didn't stop the researchers from trying to pull one over your eyes - they state the intervention group increased carbohydrate. They didn't - it's in the data and there is no way around it.

                          Hi,

                          Ex-atkineer here. Did me tons of good, though I didn't follow it all the way through to my goal.

                          Anyways, to put this in perspective guys...

                          Since last May I've gone from 330 to 275 starting each and every day off with 6 servings of cornflakes in 3 cups of skim milk and eating between 3000 and 3500 calories...

                          Granted I do exercise for an hour each and every day without exception, but I was doing the same with the 100 pounds I lost on Atkins...

                            I'm another "success story" for low-fat. I lost a whopping 5 lbs in four years, down from 188 to 183!!!!

                            Then I went on Atkins in May 2003 and lost almost 60 lbs by May 2004. I haven't done the math yet, but.....

                            That's why I'm back here. Besides, FAT TASTES GOOD.
