      That's Rich's end of the country - I mustn't trespass
Atkins didn't say 'Calories don't count',
      he said, 'Don't count calories.'

I must say that moor's diet doesn't do much for those folk who are trying to get us to eat the food unprocessed cause processed to the 3rd time is much tastier then the first or even the second.

We have funny lingo in Canada too, usually spoken by the Newfies (no offense to any Newfies here -- people who live in newfoundland)

I'se The B'y That Builds The Boat
I'se the b'y that builds the bost, Ans I'se the b'y that sails her!
I'se the b'y that catches the fish, And takes them home to Lizer.
Hip you partner, Sally Tibbo, Hip your partner, Sally Brown,
Fogo, Twillingate, Morton's Harbour, All around the circle

Sods and rinds to cover your flakes, Cake and tea for supper,
Codfish in the spring of the year, fried in maggoty butter.
              Chorus
I don't want your maggoty fish, Thats no good for winter,
I could buy as good as that, Down in Bonavista.
              Chorus
I took Lizer to a dance, And faith, but she could travel,
And ev'ry step that she did take, Was up to her knees in gravel.
              Chorus
              Susan White, she's out of sight, Her petticoat wants a border;
Old Sam Oliver, in the dark, He kissed her in the corner.
              Chorus

Actually, you will even find Shakesperean English spoken in Newfoundland (thee, thou, ye . . .) Makes me wonder, sometimes, when I hear it.

Newfoundlanders, like the English, have a language unto their own, that may or may not have anything to do with the original incarnation of it.

You mean you're having problems with that!! That's perfectly plain.

flakes - the racks used to dry cod (salted, of course)
Fogo, Twillingate, Morton's Harbour, All around the circle - the "circle" of Bonavista Bay - all those are place names
"hip your partner" - dance with your partner on your hip (jig, square dance, etc.)

I don't know all the references, but that's a start

                    Hey Cm!

Thanks for the clarification! Actually one of my best friends is from Newfoundland, but now transplanted in Calgary, she's from Stephenville, NL.

Every Newfie that I've met has been so warm and friendly!

                    Nice to meet you btw!

I'm born in Ontario, but basically lived in Vancouver from the age of 5 up until a year and half ago! and I find Vancouverites snobby in general

                      Re: The Ilkley Moor Diet

Well, Diva, I'm transplanted to NL. Lived for ten years in BC. I was born in NS, but grew to love Victoria, BC, and was rather disappointed to have to move, but my hubby was posted.

Anyway, he's a Newfoundlander, but you'd hardly know it.
My son, on the other hand, seems to have taken to the slang/dialect, and sounds like he grew up here, rather than BC, most of the time.

As I said, oft they have a language of their own, and sometimes it throws me for a loop.
