  • Protein shake question

    I just started drinking protein shakes a few days ago and want to ask the experts if they think I got the right stuff or not. It says Whey Protein on the front and also says 4 net carbs.

    The list of ingredients include:
    Protein Blend (Whey Protein Concentrate, Whey Protein Isolate), Cocoa Powder (processed with alkali), Natural and Artificial Flavor, Cellulose Gum, Salt, Soy Lecithin, Xanthan Gum, Dicalcium Phosphate, Calcium Carbonate, Maltodextrin, And Acesulfame K.

    Says it has 5 grams of carbs, 1 gram dietary fiber, and 1 gram of sugar. Is there anything in this stuff that I'm not supposed to be having?

    I usually put a serving of the mix, some milled flax seed, water and ice and blend.

    Thanks for the input, this is a completly new area of low carb that I just havent' gotten down yet.

      It looks fine to me .. how much do you add to a glass of water?

      I drink the Designer Whey Protein (chocolate) from Walmart. I typically add 1/2 cup powder to 16 oz of water and 3 ice cubes. Its pretty good!

        No it looks all right to me Just Watch your Carbs, best thing is if it brings up cravings you know something in it is triggering you so be careful the first few you have. I use shakes as a tool for Supplimenting my Protein. I ahve noticed Myself a huge difference in my energy level as I was not taking in enough protein with regualr food so I suppliment myself still eating all my Whole foods as well. Just don't start using it for all your meals you Body needs food and doing that doesn't teach you how to eat properly. I know you won't cause you are an Atkins Poster Girl.           Ok great, I was just a bit worried about the 1 gram of sugar but I guess it's just natural or something.

          I find that it makes me a lot less hungry, so I eat less, this is pretty good because in the last week I was eating like a total cow, lol. I was starving. Now I am satisfied with eating smaller portions. I just had one now it was really yummy.

          Betty - I got mine at walmart too, it's called Body Fortress Premium Whey Protein Powder, lol, try saying that three times fast. I got chocolate too, it's really yummy, almost like a treat I get to drink in the mornings I add about 10 oz of water, with the flax and the splenda, it makes a really great "treat" I wish I would have started this earlier.

          Sarah - I love you, you are doing so awesome too, and of course my Bestest friend in the whole wide world, lol, we should get friendship braclets. Oh and I wouldn't be calling anyone a poster girl for Atkins, if there's anyone who deserves that title it's you, Ms. I almost lost 100 pounds. lol.

            As long as you are not an inductee and have passed the fresh dairy rung of OWL you are legal

            the stuff you have has a blended whey protein source. Isolate is pure protein anf Concentrate is when they mix isolate with whey podering increasing the protein amount and lowering the carb amounts in the same size scoop. this is where several of your carbs are. The more isolate they add the lower the carbs are but the price goes up.

            You can add some of your favorite oil to get you in Atkins proportions with the flax it should need less then a Tablespoon total but you can figure it out in fitday by moving your calander forward and seeing how much fat you need to get to your current ratio if that is all you are going to have at your meal. Then save the values as a custom food and erase them from that days foods so you don't get a shock in the future when you arrive at that day.
