  • Anyone have an omlette maker?

I love eggs and was wondering if anyone had an omlette maker
that works great? I have a Cuisinart egg boiler that I love because
I eat deviled eggs almost every meal---but would love to have an
    omlette maker too. Any replies?

Any suggestions on how to make an omlette yourself? I stopped trying
because they always stick and it was a big mess . I want an omlette
maker so I don't have to do it myself!

I'm not sure if there's an 'official' way to do it but I'll tell you how I make mine.

First off, it'd be a good idea to invest in a nice non-stick pan. You could always add some butter or whatnot to help with it sticking, too.

I just scramble my eggs and throw them in the pan. I let them cook for a minute or two without touching them; just long enough so they're cooked on the bottom. Then, I add in any ingredients (already cooked) on the top. Finally, I just fold it in half kind of like a little pizza pouch or something with all of the ingredients on the inside. Let it cook for a few more minutes and you're good to go!

I must have the wrong kind of pan to cook them in.
I think I will look and invest in a good pan for just omlette
making.....But I would still like to have a machine! Thanks for
      the tips you gave!

Re: Anyone have an omlette maker?

I AM the omelette maker . I make mine by spreading oil all over my pan, whisk the eggs in a bowl then pour it in. I cover with a lid until set, then I put the fillings in it, fold it over, turn off the burner, put the lid back on and just let it set until I'm done in the kitchen or everyone is ready for breakfast. Honestly, I find it so easy that I never wanted to spend money on an appliance to do it for me. However, I'm sure if I had one, I would probably change my mind and never want to make one on my own again!

Re: Anyone have an omlette maker?

I beat the eggs (not too much), add salt and pepper and sometimes some parmesan cheese, then heat a little butter in a good non-stick pan. When the butter is nice and hot I pour in the egg and stir around... If the pan is hot enough it thickens instantly. Before the egg is totally set I put in anything I mean to add (often chopped tomatoes and grated cheese). Then...before the egg is totally cooked (it finishes cooking on its own), I flip it over and out onto a plate. Scrumptious!

It only takes about a minute!

Oh, and many chefs (I'm told) never wash their omlette pan. They just clean it off well with kitchen paper towels. They also keep a pan for omlettes only.

My omelette maker is a non stick pan and hubby. He is the king of the Sunday omeletter here at my house! Makes a spare every week for me to take to work during the week.

That pan will make all the difference for you Pie.

Thanks Pie4me for asking this question. I've never been able to make a good omelet, but that should change now that I have printed out everyone's replies!

Oh, and I won't even have to worry about making them at all if Terry will let me borrow her husband!!

Re: Anyone have an omlette maker?

Yes, you need a special pan. Get a good quality non-stick one. (Never wash it in water unless you've really mucked it up and something has stuck badly. Then only use hot soapy water and a plastic brush, no scourers.) Season the pan before cooking by heating a little butter to browning point, remove the pan from the heat, wipe well with paper towel. You can do this before very use if you like, I do.
Place back on heat and add a knob of butter. Swish around the pan to ensure sides are coated a little way up.

                    I use (per person)
                    2 eggs
                    1-2 tablespoons cream
                    a little grated parmesan
fresh chopped herbs to your taste

Fillings of your choice. I usually have either finely sliced mushroom, tasty cheese, or fine chopped ham.

Beat the eggs, creeam, parmesan and herbs in a bowl with a fork. Prepare the fillings so they are ready. Prepare the pan and heat the butter in it. When butter is hot, pour in egg mixture. Cook for 1-2 mins.
[At this stage I put my omelette under the griller, to cook the top. It fluffs up like a souffle! I like it done this way but not everyone does. You need to wrap the frypan's handle in alfoil wrap unless it is metal, and you'll need an oven mitt.]
The omelette should be sliding in the pan when you shake it, it should not be stuck in any way. Place back on hotplate, add fillings, cook for a minute or 2 longer. Place back under griller if you have cheese on it and want that melted cheese effect.

Serve, quickly wipe pan with paper towels and place on a cold plate, then enjoy the 'fruits' of your labours! Darn it, now I fancy an omelette!

Re: Anyone have an omlette maker?

Every time the subject of omelettes come up, I have to butt in and try to teach everyone how to make a real, classic French omelette. Most folks don't believe that this is really how a chef makes an omelette, nor do they believe that it's this easy.

First of all, the best pan for an omelette is NOT a non-stick pan, but a very good quality stainless steel one. You don't want to use a non-stick, because you're going to be using a fork to constantly whisk the eggs until set, and that fork could ruin a non-stick one.

Beat your eggs, well, in a bowl. Melt real butter in your pan, over medium HIGH heat (yes, you read that right) and when the butter just stops sizzling, pour in your eggs. Immediately begin beating and scrambling the eggs with a fork. (You're basically doing scrambled eggs, but beating in as much air as possible.) When the eggs have just about set all the way, remove from the heat, and flatten them out in the pan. Drop on any toppings, cheese, etc., that you'd like, and tilt the pan over a plate. Using your fork, gently begin pulling down the egg from the top edge of the pan, and it will fold right over onto your plate. The whole process takes about two minutes!

Try it, people. I learned this from a real French chef, and every time I go home to visit my folks, I have to make them for everyone in the family almost every morning. If anyone watches, at first they'll think you're just making scrambled eggs, but the end result is a light, beautiful, and fluffy omelette.
                        -Chris

Yes, I've done them this way, I have a SS pan I use. Mine is more like a frittata, but I like it that way. This classic French is very nice too, especially with herbs and mushroom. Yum, yum!

Re: Anyone have an omlette maker?

I make my omelet a little differently. First you need a good pan. I highly recommend the scanpan (http://www.scanpan.com/main/openstock.aspx?id=1 ). These are the best I’ve come across (I’ve tried many).

Preheat omelet pan (medium – medium low), mix eggs, a little cream and beat well. Add a little oil (butter, bacon grease) to pan and spread it around (wipe out with paper towel if you like – I’d leave it in). Add eggs to the pan (have a little decaf coffee or tea). You will see when the eggs firm up, before they are firm all the way to the top add your extra ingredients to a little less than one half of a side of the pan. Let cook a little longer until almost firm to the top. Run a spatula around the outside edge of the pan under the egg mixture to loosen, now carefully take your hot pan to the plate and slide the side of the omelet with the ingredients on to the plate (keeping the omelet pan as close to the plate as you can), as the omelet slides onto the plate and reaches the half way point flip the other half over onto itself. Sprinkle a little shredded cheese and whatever else you put in your omelet on the top. Now using your intuition as to if it’s not well enough done in the middle, if it's too loose nuke it for 15 seconds and let it set for 10 seconds.

                            Should be good.

I know that this seems complicated and time consuming, but after you have done it a couple of times it doesn't take any more time than frying eggs.

I guess I cheat... they're good and easy though. I bought one of those little cheap omlet makers at a Wal-mart for the microwave. It splits in half, made of plastic. You whip your eggs, add a little bit of water, pour half of the eggs in each half, put in the microwave for about a minute on high, pull it out and put in your ingredients, and then put it back in for about 45 seconds. Pul it out of the microwave, fold the two halves together, open up and flip it onto a plate. Very easy, and yummy!! And, cleanup is a snap.
