It is good to know that there are some natural alternatives to Stanton drugs. Honestly though, I am a little afraid to mess with my medications since they are working well and I am having no side effects.
no you don't mess with your drugs you just add those foods to your diet and they give you an added benefit of tasting good nurishing your body and lowering your cholesterol. Like add soybeans if you like them on rung 6s and keep eating them just like you can add almonds and walnuts and flax on rung 3. Then your doc does his blood work and goes WOW!! maybe we need to cut your dose some. Mine was writing the Rx when I ask about lowering the sat fats, subbing OLive oil as my fat, the 10K a day, and the foods. He said well that might lower it some okay will retest in 3 months. 3 months later my HDL was up and my LDL was down in the acceptable range so I didn't get meds then. it stayed that way for 2.5 yrs until this last test in Oct and was back up but my exercise was down and so was my flax consuption so I'm adding them back where they were and will see at the next test this spring if I'm good.

HEY SPOOK CITY long time for that doc not to talk to you. is he off today too?

Raynaud's is caused by narrowing of the little veins and subsequent poor circulation to the extremities, with tingling, burning and extreme pain. I beleiv it is often hereditary. Untreated, it can cause loss of fingers and toes (this is rare nowadays as most docs are aware of it). A cold climate is hard to take if you have this.

The chlorine in tap water evaporates if you leave it to stand for 20-30 mins uncovered. You can tell when it has evaporated because the smell is gone.

            Re: Oh My God...

Sorry for the delay. My good cholestrol is 77, which is supposedly high? BUT my bad cholestrol is 260-something.

My mother talked to my doctor and he said something like, "Well, she definitely won't be dying of a heart attack, that's for sure." She says he acted as if my good cholestrol blocked out the bad?

I'm still confused and wish I knew more. I'm also still scared because I know my bad cholestrol is so high, it doesn't possibly seem like it could just be knocked out.

Anyone good with cholestrol levels? :-\

              Re: Oh My God...

WOOO HOOO for you a 4.6 woo hoo woo hoo all that worry and you were fine and will get even better eatingyour Atkins maintenance plan and working out.

okay here is cholesterol numbers 101 the easy lesson.

HDL is the good stuff and the minamum amount the heart assoc. wants females to now have is 45 you to a great number there but it can go allthe way up to 105 andstill be normal.

they now know it is the ratio of the total to the HDL that gives them info on your cholesterol health so 355/77 is 4.6 and the healthy ratio is 3-5 so good for you see when you got all the info it was good and not scarey.

Now you can work on lowering your LDL too by making a few changes as part of your Atkins.the oat brsan if you loke it and want tohaveit will lowere your LDL by about 40% if you eat it as part of your WOE inside your Atkins WOE.

Also they now know LDL has 2 different types a big fluffy nonharmfull type and a very low density harmful type called VLDL did your doc happen to test for that too?

                  Re: Oh My God...

So pleased your results were good! I too have a high LDL, but it's knocked for six by a high HDL making for a verrrrrry low risk factor, or ratio, or whatever you call it (2.6 if I remember correctly). I've started eating oats (mixed bran and oats) in the morning and soy too, to try and lower the LDL some...but am no longer worried at all. Like you, I was scared out of my wits to begin with.

Now you can sleep easy... you're doing fine!

AWWW. Thank you all so much for the amazing information and encouragement. I also have been having OatBran in the morning with flaxseed and soymilk. So yummy!
I've been eating far less salad dressing and cut out as much sat. fat as I can. Not that I was eating much of that to begin with, but I figure it's always something to look for.
Thanks again, you're all so incredible.

                            Re: Oh My God...

There is no need to cut sat fat from your diet. The only thing Dr. Atkins says you have to cut, is hard cheese and procesed meats. The advise he gives is to take panthetine, lecitine, garlic, omega3-6-9, and oatbran or psyllium.

Although in the first version of the book he said to cut fats in case of cholesterol in the last version there is not a single advise about cutting sat fat.

                            14-Feb-04 - 36% fat
                            13-May-05 - 27%
                            06-Jun-05 - 25.5%
                            Jul-06 - 23%
                            My goal - 18%

                              Re: Oh My God...

I was tested to have high cholesterol 1st when I was 17 at 120 pounds and swimming competeively every day for 2 hours, I was as fit I have ever been and my cholesterol was 220 I low fat dieted...almost staved to death had a recheck and I was 219. So I said forget that. MAny years later after doing Atkins my cholesterol was 210 but my ratio was nice and high I even got a discount on my health insurance for having a great ratio, I was also taking Omega3 fally acid capsules as suggeted by Atkins. A few years ago after having alot of off the wagon eating no supplement my cholesterol was up to 236 but my ratio was no longer good and I had lost a lot of my good protective cholesterol and gain alot of bad.

I will always have high cholesterol, my mom dad all my sisters and grandparents do and I know that eating right will help protect me by increasing my good cholesterol.

I will have blood work done again in a few months and I will let you know what it says now.
