  • Food Rut - Help!!!!

OK - I need to get some grocery shopping done today or tomorrow and need some fresh ideas. I have been sticking with mostly salads, roast and baked chicken along with a simply cooked green veggie and have now realized that I'm in a rut and am bored with where I've stuck myself foodwise.

I am on modified OWL (20-30g) Dairy Rung. I have absolutely no imagination for food and was wondering what everyone else does to spice up their diet at this point. Funny, I saw a movie last night that had a scene of some sort of feast that included all sorts of Atkins yummy goodies like rack of lamb, pork chops, etc. with some yummy sauces but I have no idea how to make any of those. Does anyone have a favorite recipe for something like that w/sauce? Veggie ideas are welcome too.

Yes, I'm also looking at the recipes section here for ideas.....Thanks for the help!

    Re: Food Rut - Help!!!!

I am not much of a chef, so most of my variety comes off the shelf to begin with. I'm pretty simple, that's why my favourite food accessory is low-carb ketchup. I put it on cheese, meat, bacon, pretty much everything. It is my frankenfood that I literally could not live without, and that helps me stave off the boredom or to choke down something I dont' want to go to waste. I also have several different garlic salt rubs that I put on big pieces of meat--spices help give meat things variety.

I would recommend you looking out for a couple of cassarole-y recipes. I particularly like lasagna with zucchini instead of noodles. You can eat these for long periods of time, they sort of spice up your life, but are a little bit difficult to prepare so they end up being treats.

My other recommendation is to get a variety of salad dressings. I have over 10 different flavours on the door: ranch, buttermilk ranch, cheesy ranch, spicy ranch, 0 carb ranch, you get the idea =) These help make my salad days more tolerable. Additionally, I've started mixing in a combination of ground chipotle pepper and cumin into my ranch dressing for a nice mexi-bite (I don't know if you like spicy foods, but if you do try that).

I hope this sort of helps. For a serious sauce page, check out http://www.carb-lite.au.com/71SAUCES...singsmenu.html I'm sure you'll find something there!!

Thank you! I get a kick out of your array of ranch dressings - lol!!!! I love spicy food - so don't be shy there! Thank you for the link, too - I'll be checking that out. Casseroles are a good idea, too. Actually your array of dressings reminds me that I need to get a little more variety in my cheeses and get back to pepperjack, which makes a great addition to casserole dishes.

She's great isn't she?! I love her "real people" attitude.. like "plunk the hamburger in the pan" lol. Also, she doesn't use all these funky ingredients that I'd never use again. I also have 500 LC recipes. I want all of them!

Yeah, I love Dana's earthy attitude. I can't help but read about the recipe when I pick it out because she usually says something funky. I actually have most of her books - so it's not like I really should've posted this thread but I wanted to see what you guys eat .

                  Oh cool!!

Post away! Even with all the recipe books and links in the world, sometimes I still feel like I get in a rut too. lol Plus, I tend to put more stock into things that people here have tried than to just find something online or whatever. I guess I just trust that "real people" have tried them. lol

                    Re: Food Rut - Help!!!!

It sure helps! Although, I do have to admit that Dana pretty much does the trial and error thing for us but there are some things that I can't get over, like mayonnaise on an omelete with shrimp. That is just plain weird to me, as I am sure it would be to the rest of us normal folk here - that's why I like asking the experienced Atkineers here about food combos....
