  • Shirataki Noodles in Dallas?

Hello! Lately, I have been receiving e-mails from those who live in the Dallas area regarding where to find the much-raved-about shirataki/konnyaku noodles. Well, I called all of the Whole Foods Markets in the metroplex, and none of them carry this type of noodle, nor have any plans to do so. As a last resort, I then called several Japanese restaurants around the metroplex, since it would stand to reason that the employees there might be familiar with shirataki noodles and thus know where to find them. To my surprise, almost all of them had never heard of it. They all sounded dumbfounded. This is pretty frustrating, as I have so far found myself stuck without a concrete answer to a query.

Short of ordering them on the Internet (which I am avoiding), does anyone in the Dallas area know of somewhere specific shirataki/konnyaku noodles may be found?

    Hiya Sheila,

I buy them at an oriental market (Ranch Market); and I'm really surprised that the restaurants &/or employees weren't familiar with them...there were so many different varieties at our store.

Shelly, thanks for responding. I have one lead and will try it tomorrow. Hope they've heard of these noodles - hey, I'm dying to try them out, too!

My DD and I love them...they haven't caused either of us cravings, but we still limit them to a couple times a week at most!

If you find them and your interested, I've got a great pad thai recipe. Let me know!

How many carbs do these noodles have?

I've seen the carbs per portion (100g) range from 0 - 2. If you have a choice of which ones to buy, the ones preserved with calcium carbondate have no flavour and take on the flavour of your sauce, the ones preserved with lime have a slight bitter aftertaste. Remember to rinse well.

Forgot to mention, if you live near Toronto, you can buy them at the Pacific Mall grocery store (they are in the refridgerator case).

                Re: Shirataki Noodles in Dallas?

Okay, I found them this morning!! If you live in the Dallas area, there is a fabulous Asian market called May Hua Supermarket in Plano, on the northwest corner of Park & Coit. I asked the manager about them, and he walked me right over to the refrigerated section. There were a bunch of different brands and types, labeled "Shirataki" as well as "Konnyaku," so I grabbed about 7 bags and will experiment with them all this week. I am so impressed by how low in carbohydrates they are!

                Thanks for the help, everyone.

Really, so far I have found one brand of shirataki/konnyaku noodles to be every bit as good as the other.
