  • Who misses scalloped potatoes?

Oh man, I made scalloped turnips last night and WOW! They were so good! 4 turnips peeled and sliced thin .. add some minced fresh onion and finely chopped green pepper, 4 oz cream cheese, 4 oz of shredded cheddar and 1/4 cup of butter, pour 1 cup of heavy cream over the top..Bake at 400 for about an hour and top with crumbled bacon if you wish. ENJOY!

Wow!! That sounds fabulous! I never would have thought of that. Hmmm, maybe we'll have some ham on the weekend and scalloped turnips. Thanks Miss Hottie!

      Not me!!
My hubby has dairy allergies, so it never was part of my menu, even before Atkins

But, I'm glad that you found a solution for everybody who does miss them

I haven't had much luck with turnips in the past (they've alwasy come out bitter for me), However yesterday I made a beef stew and added cubed turnips in place of potatoes. Cooked in teh slowcooker for 4 or 5 hours they went nice and soft and are pretty similar to potatoes!

Yes, they can be a little bitter, but I've found if you add heavy cream and/or cream cheese to them, it really helps. Glad they worked for you!

Sounds Good, you should add the recipe to our cookbook or down in the food section so it doesn't get lost. My DH hates turnips but I bet I could do it with rutabega.

I swear, before Atkins, I would NEVER have eaten turnips. NEVER! But their consistency is SO MUCH LIKE POTATOES ... they really hit the spot. They also make terrific hash browns fried with onions and peppers! Great source of fiber too!!

I make turnip fries - just cut them into french fry shapes and toss them with olive oil and seasonings and bake them. My kids love them. I think they like them better than potato fries. I can't wait to try this out on them.

I've always liked them. Young ones are nice sliced really thin and eaten raw in salad. I also always had them in stews and casseroles.

                              MMmmmm, turnips!

I haven't tried the scalloped turnips, but yummy!

I did a clam chowder recently and used cubed turnip in that and it was good. Fresh though, they got a little mushy on day 2. I love the hashbrowns too, and mashed...I haven't met a turnip I don't like actually!
