  • Plane meals?

I'm booking a flight and I need to choose an inflight meal. What should I choose? Regular, or diabetic? I'm figuring diabetic will be the best because it won't have sugar in it. But I dont even know what kind of thing they'd serve! It's a 10 hour flight and not with my own company this time so I cant just choose when I'm on board like I usually do lol

call and ask them what they are serving I know some Atkineers that were very disapointed with the carbs in the diabetic meal. see if they have low carb? some companies do.

Ok thanks! If all else fails I guess I could order a regular and take my own snacks. The only problem is that being a cross-atlantic flight, I can't take any meat or dairy on board, so I'm seriously stuck. And 10 hours is a long time to go without enough food! hehe

I fly fairly often and have never gotten anything in the plane meal I could eat except maybe meat and cheese off a sandwich (which is not more than 2 bites. I take a little snack pack. Usually boiled eggs, celery, hunk of whatever meat is cooked or chicken wings. I also take several bottles of water.

PS. I freeze the water bottles so it keeps the snacks cold on long flights, Steph, and keep them in a cooler pouch.

I'm gonna have to find something to take. I've not flown since October, but I usually fly US - UK every 2 months or so. I've never had any problems til now, but I carry enough as it is, so I can't take bags full of stuff on the plane. I've already got my briefcase with my laptop, and my backpack to take on the plane as carry on.
I cant take any eggs, meat, dairy on board, so maybe I'll take loads of broccoli haha Or perhaps try to sneak some chicken on board and just throw it away before I get off again.

You might be able to sneak something on in your purse (????). I know! Do you have pringles? They are chips that generally come in a cylinder, but you can dump those out, pack your lunch in it and re-glue the top back on .

                What did the airline say?

can't you tske for inflight consuption?

So be an OWler and do nuts. raw ones will not have the salty addictive flavor the roasted ones do. don't try to smuggle anything with all the heightend security you could get in big trouble.

                  Re: Plane meals?

I can't eat nuts :s I'm an awkward person, I know lol. I havent called the airline since I'm still in the UK (flying back is the problem lol) and they're closed since it's 11pm.

I'm going to call them tomorrow. If they cant do it, I'll sort something out Go on a different flight or something haha It doesnt matter too much.
I may have to change dates and go on a company flight. They'll let me take anything on so long as I dont take it off the other end most probably.

I'm just one of those freaks who LIKES in flight meals! haha I look forward to them, and I find them really tasty...
Anyway, I'll give Virgin a call tomorrow and see what they say.
                  Thanks for your help everyone!

                    Re: Plane meals?

The airlines in Canada, do not even serve meals anymore. It's just some munchies, and drinks. They do sell subs/sandwiches, awful looking things. So I just bring my own vegies, cheese, low carb wraps, & fruit. Not a problem at all!

Surely you could take the meat and cheese so long as you actually comsume them en route? Check this out. I know here in Oz you can't take apples, for instance, into South Australia, so you see all these people at the border post chomping on their apples at the side of the road! I beleive it is only that you cannot take them INTO the other country, not OUT of your country of departure.

The flight from Tokyo to Seattle wasn;t bad at all. I ate the meat and a tossed salad, and I had some snacks tucked away also. Breakfast was an egg and cheese omelet but after that IHOP fiascoo, I am never sure the eggs are really eggs anymore. Humph.

Yup I learned that one..Luckily I brought my own snacks for me, and for my family. Though I'm sure they'd have to serve comp. food on a 10 hour flight. I think it's just the short haul ones they dont.

I agree that you can probably take cheese, meat etc with you as long as you eat it on the plane. We aren't supposed to take food over to the US either but you can bring those things on a plane, I did and had no issues. But I'd definately call the airline and ask what they serve.
