I could not believe my eyes - an egg cooker. I never even heard of such a thing - it's kind of cute, though. I have had the 'sticky shell' problem too, I beleive it is related to freshness.

Ugh! Jen, those omega 3 eggs! What is with those things, I know they are suppose to be good for you, but the shells are so thin! Forget boiling them! And Laurenfra, I agree with you about the age, I buy them, stick them in the frig for 7 days, I have also noticed that certain stores sell much fresher eggs than other stores! Makes me wonder about the rest of their produce......

I had the same problem, and this is how I fixed my problem:

BOIL THE EGGS ON HIGH!!! Don't slow boil the eggs. For some reason, when you cook them on a lower temp, the shell and the eggs seem to stick. I put my eggs in cold water and then turn the thermostat on HIGH, and boil for about 10 minutes. Afterwards, I dump hot water off eggs and put cold water over them, and let them sit for just a bit.

Then I crack from the flat end FIRST! There is an air pocket on that end of the egg that if you can crack there, you can lift the thin membrane right from your egg!

I've gotten much better, but I had lots of problems at first. Boiling eggs is trickier than it seems!

I make the best deviled eggs of any that I have ever eaten!!! Brag brag. So now that you have learned how to peel the shell off, try this recipe.
Put the hard boiled yolks in a bowl. (This is after you have sliced the whole egg in half.) Mash the yolks up real good with a fork. Add some mayonaise, some honey mustard, (just a little bit) some baco bits, some diced pickle and the thing that makes them taste sooooo good is to add just a little splenda. Experiment and see how much you want to add. Oh yes, some salt, just a little. Fill the halves, and refrigerate, covered with some plastic wrap.
While I am teaching you some cooking, try this recipe to go with the deviled eggs. In a crock pot, put one package of Lipton's Dry Onion soup mix. Place a pork loin roast on top of this. Then cover the pork roast with JELLIED CRANBERRY SAUCE, like you are icing a cake. DO NOT ADD ANY LIQUID! Cover and cook on LOW for about 6 or 7 hours. DELICIOUS. And to go with all of this, put canned peach halves in a casserole dish. Put some brown sugar twin in the hollow of each peach. Add a little cinnamon and a little nutmeg in each hollow. Put a small pat of butter or oleo on top of each peach. Bake at 325 degrees for about an hour. You can change any of this to abide by the Atkins diet rules.

One secret I use to make new or older eggs eaiser to peel is to add vineger to the water when boiling them!

Glad to hear it's not just me that noticed that LOL. Trying to boil/peel those omega eggs could drive a person mad!

All I buy are Omega 3 eggs. I noticed the same problem with peeling them, but like I said earlier, when I started boiling my eggs on HIGH (as high as the thermostat will go for about 10 minutes), it fixed most of that problem.

If my mom taught me anything, it was how to boil eggs! I boil on super high for 5-7 minutes, then turn off the burner, cover tight, and let sit for twenty. Then, I drain the water and replace with ice water, I do this twice to get them nice and cold. After this eggs should store for several days, and peel just fine. *If you still have problems peeling, peel under cold running water. Once you break that membrane and the water gets under it, the peel pretty much falls off! Good Luck!

I guess it's what they feed the chickens that make their shells thick or thin, those omega 3 shells are thin.

Sometimes at work I have to boil like 40 or 50 eggs at a time, and I ever have any problems peeling them. When They are just boiled i transfer them to the sink and fill it up with cold water. I make sure to crack all the eggs enough for the water to get under the shell(??), and then I leave them in the cold water. After like 10-15 minutes they are easy to peel.

Do you prick the eggs with an eggpricker before cooking them? I find that always seems to help.

Nah....I'm so used to it....And at least it is Atkins friendly...

I actually just quit that job, because it is way too tempting. Over a weekend where I'm alone in that kitchen, I sometimes bake 5-6 HUGE cakes.....and cookies, and bread and and and.....I just don't think I can resist it!

I am horrible at making hard boiled eggs in a pot. They crack, are overdone, underdone etc. and usually hard to peel regardless of age or omega content. I don't know what I do wrong--I have tried every method I can think of...
HOWEVER
I found a little device by Nordic Ware that hard boils eggs in the microwave and haven't had any problems since. It is shaped like a big white egg, was about 5 dollars and I got it at the grocery store although I think Target also carries it. You open the egg, fill the bottom with water, and put the tray with four eggs inside. It goes into the microwave for eight minutes on high and then you have four perfect hardboiled eggs which are easy to peel. This has been a lifesaver for me and you might like to try it. I have found it to be worth every penny I spent on it. No more frustration over hard boiled eggs! Maybe this would help you?

I really think it must have something to do with the eggs. I like to boil 6 to 8 eggs at a time. (I use the bring to boil and let them set method.) I have tried putting them in cold water when done, letting them cool naturally, cracking them when done, running water…. And what I have found is that I will have some eggs that peel easy and others won’t peel for anything. These are eggs that all were handled exactly the same and even came out of the same package.
Go figure, it is a mystery.
