  • What do you do when someone says...

"You're doing great on your diet" or "Are you still on that diet"

I hate the word diet, I hate to preach, they are not asking me for details..just these stupid comments come out almost every day...

Once I said "This is how I'm going to eat from now on." They go down the list of things like "You're never going to have a hamburger on a bun? French fries? cake?" If I say no..they look at me like they don't believe me!!!

I can't wait to show them

I think I'm going to say, "Did you read the book" when they look at me like I'm missing out on "good food"

I just say that my body doesn't deal well with refined sugar and simple carbohydrates, and that I'll always have to avoid those if I want to stay healthy. That usually suffices.

I tell them, I'm not on a diet, but I have adapted a new way of healthy eating, that I intend to follow always!!

I like the quote someone on this board has in their siggy.

I'm allergic to sugar, it makes me break out in fat.

Look up the word 'diet' in the dictionary. My Chambers 20th Century says 'a way of life; lately with special reference to food'. SO tell them yes, it is your new way of life.

Oh I still get that too, even after 4 years. I usually say "thank you for caring about how I eat, I but really, I can handle it."

A good stock response to the "Are you still doing Atkins?" question: "You aren't looking very closely, are you?"

Yes, the "proof is in the pudding", isn't it?

I am so excited because some day soon I will be able to show all my naysayers that this is a healthy way of life...someday soon when I am at my goal weight, and continue to remain committed to the Atkins WOL.

I am barely a month into it, and even I get asked that question too: "Are you still on that Atkins diet?".

I tell them "Yes, and I haven't felt this good physically and mentally since I was a kid. Wanna borrow my DANDR book?" (and of course they all say no).

But maybe when they SEE how healthy I have become they will take me up on my offer......

As for the ignorant comments, well, how can you take anyone seriously who is so obviously NOT educated on the matter. I just secretly laugh at them to myself as they polish off their bags of baked Cheetos!

I like to point out that the first three letters in diet are D I E and that's what you do on a diet. My way of LIFE is very satisfying and effective.

                          People can say that but,

When they see what I'm eating and I tell them how much weight I've lost they tend to get interested, especially the guys. There is nothing guys like more than a big juicy piece of steak!

A girl at work has seen my lunches of salad and fresh roast chicken. The smell of roast chicken (I buy quality stuff) wafts through the office. She has said "You know David, a lot of peopel would like your diet!"

I gave her a copy of DANDR (Cause you gotta share the love!) Now she is getting her mother on it. Her mother reads only Greek, so this girl is translating it for her! LOL
