  • The Great Water Debate

My friend and I are "arguing" (debating more like) over how much water one should drink daily. I've read on here 64oz, which sounds normal to me as it's about 8 large glasses a day, which is like one every 2.5 hours.

She's adament that she's read on another Atkins site (apparently the official one) that one should drink 8oz of water a day min. Which doesn't seem like anywhere near enough to me.

She's complaining now that she couldnt possibly drink 64oz a day of water because she'd drown herself and be peeing constantly, but I disagree.

Please settle our debate, because I'm basing my argument on DANDR and these boards, but she won't give up the fight.

    Re: The Great Water Debate

The standard is 64 ounces of water PLUS an additional 8 ounces for every 25 pounds you want to lose.

An alternative is to drink half your body weight in ounces. This usually winds up being more. This is the one I usually go with, since I'm not sure how much weight I want to lose.

I wouldn't place much stock in what the "official" Atkins board says these days...it's like one big infomercial. Here's the sticky on water... http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ead.php?t=6778

Thank you so much!! *links her*

I think I navigated the "official" site (with great difficulty, may I add) and found what I believe is what she's read. And I quote:

"10. Drink at least eight 8-ounce glasses of water every day to hydrate your body, avoid constipation and flush out the by-products of burning fat"

I think she just mis read it, but it would be nice if she just trusted me.

Thanks again for your settlement of this discussion.

What I love is in his 1972 book, he mentions drinking up to 64 ounces, but not to FORCE it!
I drink just enough water to choke down my vitamins, and a few more sips after my exercise.
I've lost 85 pounds just fine.
My doctor had told me 64 ounces is the "norm" but it's not mandatory. To drink when thirsty.
