  • Ideas for Pork Rinds?

Hello All, I hear that some people enjoy the crunchy-ness of porkrinds, so I bought some but I have no idea what to eat with them, or dip them in? I tried dipping them in sour cream (which was okay, but not great).

    Anyone have any yummy ideas?

I'd like to know more ideas too! All I've done so far is mix 50/50 cheddar cheese and cream cheese and microwave into a dip. Watch your portions though...

I've heard some crush up the pork rinds and use them in leu of breading for pan-frying.

        Pork Rinds 101:

Crushed for breading - can be used for most anything and if you dig in your spice cabinet you can really jazz it up!

        Dip delivery system.

French Toast. Yep. I said French Toast. If you dig around here, you'll find a recipe for mock french toast made from pork rinds. I was horrified at the thought at first and then I experimented on my whole family. I didn't tell anyone what they were made from, just that it was a new recipe and they chowed. heh heh Good stuff!

I also use it to bulk up meatloafs and that sort of thing- in lieu of crackers or bread crumbs

          Here's what I've heard:

~Smash them up and use them for breading

~Smash them up and use them in a faux french toast recipe. It's floating around somewhere on the board. Supposedly it's really good.

~Mix up tuna salad or egg salad or something like that and use the pork rinds to scoop it up.

~Melt some butter in a ziploc bag, then add cinnamon and splenda. Add some pork rinds and shake until mixed.

The only thing above that I've tried is the cinnamon splenda thing, which is really good. Just be careful with them...they contain a LOT of salt...

I crush them and use them in meatloaf, flavor them with spices and parmesan cheese to bread chicken.
I've made dips of sour cream and dried onions (let the dip sit for a few hours for the flavors to mingle). I'll use them crushed on top of a salad, or to scoop tuna or egg salad.
You can use them for a pizza crust (check recipe board).

I like them plain. There are times I just want something crunchy and salty (like when DF is eating his chips or popcorn) and I'll just dig in to my bag of PR's. I share them with my cat-He ADORES them!

                Nope. They're fat and protein.

However- they're also LOADED with sodium and they're very calorically dense. The Atkins Center (back in the day - NOT Atkins Nutritionals) recommended eating no more than 1-2oz of them a day - and they didn't recommend doing that every day either.

I don't really like the taste of them.....but I'll try crushing them up....I need to find that french toast recipe! I used to LOVE LOVE LOVE french toast : )

That idea with the butte, splenda and cinnamon sounds interesting...does it make them taste like faux churros???

Not a fan of pork rinds, eh?

I've tried just about all of the above. I've also put hot sauce on mine.

OOOH - I love the cinnamon and Splenda idea - gotta try that!

Well, I am a hot-and-spicy girl so I like to nuke a little hunk of cream cheese for about 15 seconds and then drown it in hot sauce. Dip those crunchy pork rinds and enjoy!

I just used them in a recipe that I found on here for salmon patties. They were delicious!
