  • After I am done

Hey everyone, this is my first post here and I really like the forum. I have been on Atkins for 5 weeks now and last time I weighed myself I had lost 7 pounds (that was last week so it is probably a little more now). So that is 7 out of my goal of 15. Being halfway there I am catching a glimpse of the light at the end of the tunnel. So I am thinking of it being over.

So naturally, I was wondering, how do I make sure I keep the weight off? Keep in mind I want to eat bread again! I just wanted to make sure after all this hard work I wont gain it all back. So whats the deal?! Is my body gonna freak out and store all those carbs and sugar? My friends tell me I will but they are dumb (and never had to loose weight).

    Thanks for your input

    Re: After I am done

Have you read Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution, version 2002, DANDR for short? That's the book we follow at this website.

If you have read the book you understand that you start out with the 12 Rules of Induction and you eat from the Acceptable Foods list. When you are within 15 or so pounds of your goal, you progress up the OWL (Ongoing Weight Loss) ladder, adding in foods in a specific order, monitoring what they do to you as you go along.

This is not a fad diet that you go on then go off of. The goal of Atkins is to give you a new way of looking at food and a new way of eating for life.
If done properly, a person will not ever eat the way they did before atkins with all the bad carbs and sugar.

And yes, your body will freak out if you hit your goal and then start eating sugar and carbs.
Do this correctly, and you will have learned a healthy way to eat that will stay with you for the rest f your life.

Please get the book and give it a good read so your friends aren't given a reason to say "I told you so!"

There is another Atkins book called Atkins for Life. It is for those on premaintenance and maintenance (the last 2 stages of the program). Remember, diet means a way of life, not a short weight loss program ater which you can go back to eating all that crap we all ate to make us fat.

It is an excellent publication full of menus plans, recipes and suggestions for everyday living and coping in restaurants.

You can keep the weight off by following the plan. If you go off Atkins, not only will you gain that weight back, but you'll most likely gain even more. Atkins is not a fad diet, as Moochie said. This is a way of life. A healthier life. Get the book. It'll open your eyes.

            Hi there

Congratulations on what you've lost so far, that's great. To keep it going - read Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution (the 2002 edition) and take time to think about it each day. Plan your meals well and include water, exercise and multivitamins. If you approach each stage of Atkins correctly and don't rush yourself you'll do just fine.

Post questions frequently here too - that's what the board is for.

            Best wishes

              Wow Fogue,

You're halfway there! I wish I could say the same thing, but I'll be there soon enough. This WOE offers sound habits, particularly in the realm of eating, so stay the course with what you're doing and you'll get there sooner, rather than later.
