I have been doing induction for more than 2 weeks and then realized I was eating the Atkins chocolates and should not have been. Stopped using them for 4 complete days. Perfect record; exercising at least 30-40 min. a day, drinking lots of water, keeping carbs between 15-20 a day. Waited until day 5 to check for ketosis and NOTHING. Negative. Is it too soon? What could I be doing wrong?

Re: Why isn't ketosis happening??
How about posting one of your typical day's meals? Perhaps some of the more experienced people here can find something.
Some people say those test strips don't work for them. There are some stickies here that tell you more signs of ketosis than just the strips. Things like gorilla breath, stinky urine, etc... (I've had/have both... yuck!).
Best of luck to you!

Re: Why isn't ketosis happening??
You might want to post a menu so we can see if there's something you are doing that you're not seeing. Also, if you are drinking lots of water then the sticks might not turn colour. I'm assuming that's how you're judging whether or not you are in ketosis? I don't rely on them, but I've used them a couple of times. I drink a lot of water so it only shows a little higher than trace because all the ketones are being flushed away. Don't worry about that. Are you feeling good? Not hungry? Following the plan? I wouldn't focus too much on what the little pee sticks have to say.Female, 46yrs, 5'3"

Re: Why isn't ketosis happening??
did you know ketones exist in 3 forums in the humanbody and only one form is detectable on stix and that form an be burned for energy or convertee to other things too so you can easily be on ketosis (burning fats for fuel) and never change the color on those stix.by the book atkinseer

Re: Why isn't ketosis happening??
Thanks everyone. Typical day for me: 2-3 deviled eggs, sometimes by themselves, sometimes with some meat like kosher salami or turkey bacon. Snack is an Atkins chocolate shake (the 1 carb kind). Lunch is a big green salad (romaine leaves, red cabbage, a little yellow/orange pepper) and with (measured-out) Italian dressing and grilled chicken on top or on the side. Dinner = steak and green vegetable (also measured). Dessert is sugar-free jello. Lots of water throughout the day.
Any clues? I should mention that I've also lost only 1 pound. Better lost than gained, for sure, but I need some other gauge of how I'm doing. Hate the scale and use it sparingly. Thought the ketostix would be a good indicator. Also did 40 minutes this morning (at 6am!!!) on the treadmill.
I feel frustrated as I really feel like I'm doing everything 'right'.

Re: Why isn't ketosis happening??
the fact that you have lost weight should tell you you are in ketosis as defined by Dr Atkins. there are many physical signs of Atkins ketosis too.
we are supposed tohave some of our vegie carbs at every meal so we are speading out the carbs. you want to have theright fuel mix all day not just at some meals.
Is your appetite suppressed? if so then you are in ketosis.
Dessert isn't supposed to be an every day event when you do Atkins. the sweet thoth is something that cause most of use to need Atkins in the first place. Drop the shake and jello and pick foods from your acceptable foods lists.

Hi yodee
How much weight are you hoping to lose?Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Re: Why isn't ketosis happening??
I found that with drinking lots of water, the ketostrips didn't change for me. If however, I drank lots, say at lunchtime... then stopped drinking for about three hours or so, then tried out the sticks... they would register. I could then start drinking again. Just a little trick. The water dilutes the results, I think. Only did this on a few occasions though as the stick don't really mean that much. Before and after:
