  • Protein Shakes--Suggestions Needed!

Hello everyone I am hoping that you tell me some of your favorite brand of low crab protein drink mix (chocolate flavor). I buy the Atkins Advantage ready to drink shakes but they are a bit pricey- $5.50 - $6.50 for a four pack. I do enjoy the taste and the long lasting full feeling.
I want to go to a powder mix so I can take it to work for a quick lunch. I see that Atkins does have the mix available but the price is listed as $20.00 for a can! I have also read several reviews where people say that it is not that tasty and that it requires a blender to mix so it probably wouldn't work well for me. I want to be able to shake it up at work. I have also tried the already made Body for Life brand and didn't like it at all. It seemed very watery and not as filling. I am just assuming that I wont like the powder mix if I didn't like the ready made stuff.
I hope you all can give me so brand names of shakes you like.
    Thanks!
    Holli

Designer Whey Protein is available at Walmart in a very large box that lasts me more than a month (5 days a week I have it for breakfast). Its not real thick, so I usually put 1/2 cup in a blender with approx 12 oz of water and 3 ice cubes. The chocolate is quite good.

Just my opinion, but I really think the use of protein drinks really depends on a number of things such as:

      1. Your lifestyle: if you are a vegetarian doing Atkins, protein drinks would be a viable supplement to your vegetarian diet.
      2. Your percentage of "real food" protein intake. If you are getting the 30%, then additional protein might not be advantageous to your weight loss, since 58% of all the protein we eat (or drink) is converted to glucose.

Yes, Megs is right. If you are exercising rigorously, you may be able to eat more protein without it converting to glucose, but if not, then be aware of that fact.

I love Optimum Nutrition Pro Complex. It's just about the only shake mix I'll use!

Just my opinion but the worse tasting powder protien shake is Atkins Advantage and I like their canned shakes the best.

I have had good luck with Keto..I liked the orange flavor and made it in a blender with ice cubes. Thats the only probelm I see with making them at work i haven't had good luck with any of the shakes tasting good with out the use of a blender and ice.

I also use either a little heavy cream or Hood Carb Countdown milk and water or diet orange soda with the orange kind or diet cola or diet root beer with a chocolate mix or cold coffee is good. But I really feel the blender is a must.

I've yet to find a protein powder that I can 'shake' rather than blend. They're always lumpy IMO.

I also add ice cubes soy milk/bit of heavy cream, or sometimes a couple of tbns of cream cheese instead of cream. Yogurt is good too.

I buy vanilla, I find it much more versatile. If i want chocolate, i can add a tbsn or so of pure cocoa powder, i can add berries for more of a smoothie.

Like mentioned above, make sure you watch your protein intake and have them in moderation.
