  • What do the pro's eat?

I did a search and didn't seem to come up with a menu from some of the 'pro's' on the site. Am I missing a thread? If not, would some of you who are more experienced be willing to submit a menu for a day as an example to us newbies?

    Just a thought.

Unfortunately that's a tall order because there are alot of foods on the Induction Foods list and there is a huge difference in personal tastes and food intolerances. So what might be on my menu, might not be conventional enough to suite anyone's tastes other than my own.

The best advice I can give to you is to sit down with the Foods List and see what items there you like to eat or are willing to try. Then go to the recipe section (or even do a web search) and see if you can find a recipe with those ingredients.

Re: What do the pro's eat?

A lot of us who have been doing this for awhile are in premaintenance or maintenance, so our diets aren't necessarily a great example for someone who's just starting out. But I'll give you today's menu just as an example of the great variety you can have on this WOE:

      Breakfast:
      Ground beef with taco seasonings
      Black beans
      Grated cheddar cheese
      Sour cream

      Lunch
      Soy milk
      Flax cereal
Low carb tortilla with tbs peanut butter

      Snack
Cream cheese with Splenda and cocoa powder

      Dinner
      Roasted brussel sprouts
      Broccoli
      Steak

Now, as I mentioned, this isn't a great example since I'm eating a lot of grains and dairy at this point. Also, I haven't spread my veggies out throughout the day. This is a better example of what I'd eat when I was on induction:

      Breakfast
Egg muffins with canadian bacon, onion, and green pepper

      Lunch
Salad with tuna fish or chicken, cheddar cheese, ranch dressing

      Dinner
      Steak
Broccoli with butter or cheese sauce.

As you can tell - I still LOVE broccoli and steak.

A lot of people record their menus in the Journal Stats. You could try looking there.

What's a pro ? I guess someone who has been doing this WOL for a while ?

Would depend what phase you are currently in.

If you are talking 14 day induction, I would go pure foods and keep to the rules of DANDR.

Also check out the Review My Menu section if you haven't already! It gives you an idea of what some people on induction like to eat, what they're doing right, and what they might could improve on.

Re: What do the pro's eat?

If being in maintenance qualifies me as a 'pro'...here's a fairly typical sort of day's eating for me:

Breakfast: 1/2 cup oats/oat bran unsweetened, but with a teasponn of cream or extra virgin olive oil (yeah... odd, I know). Plus either: 1/4 avocado, or a slice of cold chicken/pork, or a couple of eggs (sometimes with bacon).

Lunch: LARGE salad with either Feta/olive oil/vinegar dressing or with tuna fish (and dressing of course). Flax crackers with cheese or butter.

Supper: Meat/fish/eggs/fowl... cooked various ways. Veggies: often leafy green veggies like spinach, with olive oil, or tossed in oil and sauteed garlic; sometimes ratatouille (eggplant, onion, celery. zucchini. pepper mix in tomato sauce); sometimes faux rice (grated cauliflower); or squash... the list could go on and on! Usually a couple of cups though. Glass of red wine. Often a dessert of greek yoghurt with splenda, or berries and cream, occasionally an Atkins friendly slice of cake made with almond flour.

I snack on nuts (not many though) and olives when calorie count or appetite permit.

I know that the wine and desserts shouldn't be quite as 'regular' as they are...but so far, am maintaining my weight, soooooo... I put those down to being little maintenance peccadillos!

My carbs vary between 45-65. Calories between 1800-2100.

              Happy eating. Happy losing.

Re: What do the pro's eat?

                My typical daily menu is:

Breakfast (everyday without fail unless I travel)
                Blend
                yogurt
                broccoli
                spinach
                apple
                blueberry
                strawberry
                protein powder

                Lunch
usually chicken salad tuna salad or left overs

                snack
                handful walnuts
                string cheese
                or
apple wedges and sf peanut butter

                dinner
sometimes I'll just graze on nuts, wheat crackers and peanut butter, cheese
                or
                chicken breast/steak/fish
                veggie

I'm pretty boring but some staples I always have on hand are
                peanut butter
nuts of all kinds or my home made trail mix w/kashi cereal
                yogurt
                broccoli
                akmak crackers
                protein powder
fresh and frozen fruit variety of seasonal

(In the summer I eat far too many figs...but never gain!)

Something I have learned on maintenance is experiment with fruit. Some are not tolerant of a lot of fruit....my body craves it plus I work out 6 days a week. AAAHHHH such freedom is fruit! I just love it!

                  blueberry
                  strawberry
                  protein powder
Fawn You mix all that together? sounds good, well without the broccoli and spinach! Mind you it would be a very healthy breakfast!

I have a stats journal and post my meals in there. Like not2late mentioned it's all very individual, some people can have more daily carbs than others etc.

Thanks for all the answers and guidance. I thought I'd given the forums a once or thrice over, but I guess I missed a few. There's so much good stuff I get stuck on two threads and then it's time for me to go!
