    Re: Communion??

I have checked my ketones before and after communion, and the next day. Has never thrown me out of ketosis. Must be those special "God carbs"!

I just drink a ton of water afterward to get the sweet juice taste out of my mouth. I do count it as 2 carbs. Don't know how I came up with that. Our church has 2 services that I do children's moments for-I do exit before the second communion-just because of the carbs-so I know the feeling you're describing.

      Re: Communion??

Fiddle-- I'm a baptist and this is the same issue I've had to struggle with, too. I'm posting to your thread, not to be argumentative or to be contrary, but hey. I think people need to know there are those of us in the world who say, "whoa! Put down the cracker and the grape juice and back away slowly"...

I look at this as being about sobriety, and carbs are honestly drugs. They are. Like alcohol. And God won't say to the alcoholic, "If you don't drink the wine at Communion you suck".

God sent His son so that we are with Him each and every day. There's nothing a piece of bread and a sip of carbs can do that prayer and our daily walk with God can't accomplish.

Thanks for listening to me ramble.

        Re: Communion??

        Hi everybody,

What I am going to say now is my personal opinion only.

I’ve never thought about communion as being food. I’ve never counted the carb and surprisingly (or not), I’ve never had any cravings or thought that it is cheating. I have my piece of bread and glass of wine with no afterthoughts. I believe that when taken with the above attitude it cannot be seen as “breaking the diet” or “cheating”.

God doesn't care about the little customs which are man-made. He cares about what is in our hearts. Not taking Communion is not a sin if it is for health reasons.

Communion is not man-made. Jesus himself asked that we honor his death by taking communion.

So, use communion and do not even worry about it – the carb section – it is food for your soul and not your body!!

          Re: Communion??

I take it and try not to worry about it. I don't think God would be mad if I didnt, But my pastor would. The one time I didnt go up he came to me and I sit in the back row, I was sooo embarrassed that I got this "special" attention that I didnt want.
He is ok with my gluteon free wafer and it tastes like cardboard and no way could I think it will make me want to cheat.
The wine, If it touches my lips, Im lucky, they are fast with it, which is ok.

            Re: Communion??

you know what...I have been receiving communion (Host and Wine) while I have been on Atkins for over 2 years... It has never made me have any guilty thoughts or made me crave other sweets etc. 1 time a week will NEVER hurt...It could have a small and I repeat small impact on weight loss. I will take that risk on my weight rather than take the risk for my soul FOREVER.

I lost 45 lbs the first time around and gained 5 lbs back b/c of Chiristmas goodies not Communion. I'm just back now to finish what I started Plus another 10lbs.

            Just my opinion.

              Re: Communion??

Well. Tomorrow is the first Sunday of the month, when communion is served at my church.

And today I have been attacked by the worst cravings. I was this close to going to the store to buy what I shouldn't & eat the whole thing.

Funny, there's a church I've been wanting to visit (too far away to attend regularly, I just want to visit), and yesterday I had pretty much decided to visit there tomorrow, and thus simply dodge the issue this month.

BUT... since my concern is that the little bread-n-grape-juice will renew my cravings... and since those cravings have already renewed themselves... my concern becomes pointless!! If communion gives me the hungries, well, I've already got them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So - that answers my question. At least for this month. I'll take it one month at a time!!!

(But, maybe next month I ask God for faith that He will help me, instead of merely asking Him to clearly answer my question!)
