  • Elliptical

Hello all. I tried posting this in the exercise forum but had no luck. Maybe I'll have better luck here.

I decided that I am going to invest in an elliptical and I want to get the best one that I can afford, of course

I was wondering, if you own one or use one, which brand/model is if, and would you recommend it. I really trust your opinions, much more than the websites that say you HAVE to spend 3 grand or it is crapola.

    Thanks so much!!

      Re: Elliptical

I have tried many different brands of ellipical machines. It's really a matter of personal choice. Some definately have smoother motions than others. Others glide like its on butter, while others have a jerking motion. Yuck!

Then there's the available functions on it. Some can adjust so that you can choose to focus more on your buns (owie!), your thighs, hamstrings, or a mix-it up for you. Others have a built-in heart rate monitor whether hand-held and/or chest strap. Others let you custom program a routine in addition to preset programs. Obviously, the more electronic gizmos, the more expensive.

After testing them out, your next decison would probably be, cost v. functions/motion/realiabilty of the machine. This is a real thought provoker because the better built machines (i.e. metal gears, metal frame, no plastic parts, long warrantees) are going to be more expensive.

After all my searching, I chose the brand, True. I also have their treadmill and stationary bike, but I did not like their stair stepper. They have an awesome guarantee, and I've never had a problem with 'em. Again, it's what you like in a machine. For my husband & I, these machines are an investment in our health. That's how we justify the cost.

If you have a health club in your area, many of them will allow you a free one day or one week pass to try out their club. If so, that would a good opportunity to actually test a couple of brands for a full workout. Just playing with one at the store won't do it justice unless they don't mind you doing an actual workout. The place where we bought our equipment actually wants you to workout on them...so we did! See how you feel after you use the machine for 30 minutes to an hour.

Please let us know when you've picked one out!

        Re: Elliptical

((((analog)))) Thanks so much. I checked that one out already. It was a good site through. Thanks

((((Biogeek)))) Thank you for your info. True does look like they make some very nive ellipticals buy that is WAY over my budget. Maybe one day....LOL

I was thinking of trying on of the health clubs/guyms, but really they have the top of the line machines that I can't afford. It was a good idea though.

I am leaning more towards the ProForm 850. I've seen it go from $700.00-800.00, but it's on sale right now for 499.99. That I can afford. It has the EKG2 heart rate moniter, which I wanted, the space saver design, which is a plus, and and fan built in. It also has 10 different resistances, and 8 different workouts. It seems like a nice one w/ out all the extra gadgets like the iFit things I think they're called. I've found good reviews online, so I'm going to check it out at the store for myself.

I did find one with an adjustable incline, which I do like, but they machine didn't get the greatest reviews and I'd rather have one that doesn't incline and is sturdy and will last me.

Thanks so much for your input. You guys are great!

          Re: Elliptical

Another site that has reviews for the different brands. http://www.ellipticaltrainers.com/in...l_ratings.html Do check your local paper for a good used one. Also, if you are an Ebayer, there are some that are offered direct from the factory on sale and some with free shipping. Check to see who makes what name brand. You may find that some of the "name" brand machines are also built under another name, and the moderately priced ones can be found at Costco, Sams Club etc.
