  • Having that Happy High!

I had forgotten about this, but this happened to me the last time I was on Atkins, I'm sure somebody has an explaination for this....I'm happy! I mean noticably happy! Like I didn't notice that I was sad, don't know when I got sad, maybe when my 13 year old dog died last September? But I have been on Atkins again for almost 3 weeks and yesterday, I woke up full of energy, cleaned my house from top to bottom, my husband came home, said he thought he was married to Donna Reed, dinner was on the table, everything was clean! And today, I just feel really, really happy and clear and focused. Any body else have this experience?

    Re: Having that Happy High!

I'm generally happier, but my PMS is a hundred times worse than before. It was so bad last month, I broke down in the middle of a supermarket, I cried at work for hours for nor reason, and worst of all, I kept thinking to myself that jumping in front of a bus would be better than continuing life.

But yeah, I'm getting medication now, because it got out of control. But generally, I'm happier!

        Steph,

I was gonna ask you if you were starting menopause, but then I see you are only 20 years old! My PMS was terrible in my early 30's, then settled back down again.

          Re: Having that Happy High!

My PMS has gotten out of control as well and like Stephbob, I'll soon be on medication for that. That part sucks.

But for the five minutes a month when I feel normal, I feel wonderful, and I have a lot more interest in things domestic, and my outlook is optimistic.
I'm absolutely sure it has to do with blood sugars being on an even keel.

Oh, I hope I'm not going through menopause! lol

The only time my PMS was this bad was when I was on the pill. I hated the way I got so much that I stopped taking it for that reason. So it's got to be due to a combination of hormones and sugar levels.

I cheated, I'll admit it, but the only thing that brought me back to normal last week was sugary chocolate. I had only a couple of blocks, but that balanced me out. I had no other choice, but I didnt gain weight, and at least now I'm on medication to help balance me out.

I've also started taking 2 capsules of evening primrose oil every day as that is supposed to help balance you out too. It's worth a try!

I'm happy too, and have so much more energy than before. I put it down to all that extra protein, until a few weeks ago I was naughty and ate white bread three times in a week (we had guests). Not much, 3 or 4 rounds from a French stick. Friday of that week I was back to the old pre-atkins me, tired from go to whoa, depressed, yechy! It was not until I was driving home that the penny dropped. I'd poisoned myself all over again. I certainly won't be doing THAT again! Removing the refined poisons from our system lets us feel that lovely natural high.

Yup, I'm happier, have more physical endurance, and wake up feeling refereshed (after fewer hours than I used to sleep). I've really come around to the idea that sugar is poison.
