Okay, I know that I have only been on Atkins for a week, (started on 30 Jan), but I gained a pound! That does not seem to make sense to me. I test for ketones twice a day, and the strip comes off as dark purple, meaning 120+ mg/dL, so I am definately in ketosis. My carb intake has never been over 19. I am 5'8 1/2" 150 lbs, size 6--does the fact that I do not have a whole lot to lose have anything to do with this? Could it be that I really am actually gaining weight even in ketosis?

Re: Almost a week in induction, and I gained!
Post a menu for review. Also...are you eating food hi in sodium?? Maybe you are holding water? You don't have a lot to lose so.....the wieght loss maybe be slower for you. Remember 5-10% of your total in the first TWO weeks.
This WOL does work, but sometimes you need a little patience. Good luck

Re: Almost a week in induction, and I gained!
As kiasmama said, you should only expect to lose 5-10% in the first 2 weeks, which for you would be 0.75lb-1.5lbs! Yes, it's going to be a lot slower than someone with more weight to lose, but don't give up. Perseverence is the key!Steph - Age: 24 yrs - Height: 5'4" - Original Weight: 170 lbs - Current Weight: 155 lbs - Goal Weight: 120 lbs - STAC

Re: Almost a week in induction, and I gained!
Okay, here is what I have been eating. I eat the same thing every day. It is boring, but it is easier for me that way.
Breakfast:
3 scrambled eggs
2 strips bacon, low-sodium
1 oz extra sharp Cracker Barrel brand cheese
1 large glass water with lemon
1 cup decaf
Lunch:
2 cups iceberg lettuce
4 oz grilled chicken breast
3 tbsp vinegar
2 tbsp olive oil
Snack:
1/2 cup raw green beans
Dinner:
8 oz ribeye steak without fatty portions (not because I'm afraid to eat it, because I can't stand the taste!)
1/2 cup green beans, cooked
3 oz Cracker Barrel extra sharp cheddar cheese
After dinner snack (only sometimes, if I am still hungry for some reason):
1/2 can tuna, drained (in water, not oil)
Thank you for any insight you guys may give!Start: 30 Jan 06

Re: Almost a week in induction, and I gained!
Your menu looks pretty darn solid to me! I'm not sure how much water you're drinking and if you're exercising or not. Are you? -This could be a big reason you're not seeing a drop yet, but we can address that when you let us know
You're looking to lose 15lbs, so a reasonable expectation of induction weight loss should be anywhere from 1/2lb to 2lbs over the course of the first two weeks.

I would nix the cheese during induction. Yeah yeah I know, cheese is allowed, but for ALOT of folk, it stalls weight loss.
Also, iceberg lettuce has no nutritional value whatsoever. Try romaine or, better yet, baby spinach or aragula .. much better for you!
Tuna is very high in sodium also, which will cause you to retain water. And, speaking of water, 64 oz a day is minimum!

Re: Almost a week in induction, and I gained!
Thanks for all of the info. I thought baby spinach was not allowed! If so, I would be more than happy to substitute that in my salad!
Grrr.... that is in reference to the cheese.... I was wondering about that. I think I will cut it to an ounce. I don't think I can nix it altogether, though, as that is the only thing I actually enjoy eating besides my green beans!Start: 30 Jan 06

Re: Almost a week in induction, and I gained!
you said you have the same food every day. See Dr Atkins tells us to eat to satisfy hunger so i have a hard time believing that your hunger is exactly the same every day. try varying your food a bit leave out a piece of bacon or cheese in the AM and see. If you get hungry then you have them to snack on. if not then youhave been over eating your Atkins just cause it was legal.
WHat you doing for the mandatory exercise poart of your Atkins? is this a new to you exercise program? if so that can cause fluid retention until your muscles learn that load will be their new level.
Where are you in your TOM? is that close as that fluid retaining can cause weight gaoin too.
Are your bowels moving? if not you can pile up a lot of pounds in there too.

You have been given lots of good advice - but I noticed yuor snack seems to be just beans on their own.
You need to have some fat with that to offset any insulin spikes caused by eating carbs on their own.Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

4 oz of cheese is a lot of cheese! Have you checked the back to see how many carbs are in each ounce of cheese? That sounds like a lot to me. When I was on induction, I only had an ounce or two of cheese once or twice a week.Chriss Female 246/236/160 5'3"
